Since Tyrants are simply too dominate and would win every TG tournament, the teams could be made random, all top players will be separated and their teammates get drawn at random from the remaining participants.
I've enough mixed skill games experience to know that this never works. The amount of frustration that some of the best players will endure is unheard of especially if they are actually trying to win. It takes a different mind set and only appeals for no prize tournaments with non-smurfs(i.e you know the people for years).
Plus the only strategy that's effective is to sling the best player on the team. Even if its island, but that depends on players skill level.
Plus it probably would be a very boring game. Imagine 2k vs 1400 111. The team with better luck (map posicion) will win the game. Nevertheless, i'd like to see a game like this, just for fun.
I think its a really great idea because think of how many 1400s-1900s would get to learn and increase their skills, and if its 2k4 player vs a 1400, the other team will also have a 2k4 or 2k player to help him out. And the teams would actually be fair if seeded correctly.
Totally noob idea, imagine the 1400 being pkt and Viper being pkt in the other team  do i need to say more?
seems you don't have enough experience with team games no matter if you have the same amounth of noobs or skilled players it is their position and their civs wich might cause a mess and just a big frustration to the players.
If we did this it would have to be played mirror civs of course. Pretty sure you can make maps where colors faces another color, but again, it was just an idea that would be cool for me.
I'm of the opinion that 1400 is too low, but if we follow similar skill requirements as in CoT, and the teams would be able to determine the position of each player before a game (which I imagine being a possibility via a new patch after seeing what great features the 1.4RC patch has given us) then it could work if the participants have integrity and would sign up with a name that reflects their skill in their rating points.
Alas, in this world, as it is now, I would agree it not being possible if there is any money up for grabs, because the option of smurfing would not be too difficult to employ for those who don't feel aversion to fraudulent behavior of this sort.
That being said I think the idea would be great for a 'just for fun' tournament where no money is at stake.
