I'm going to tell a quick story to you guys!
After DM was merged into the Medieval Siege lobby back in 2013, and the WiC announcement soon followed, I really began to fall in love with this community. It's great seeing so many players love the game the same way as I do (except most of you love chasing boars maybe a little too much).
When WiC was announced, which included this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nDupW5EWOM , I remember watching this in complete shock: not only was AoC going to have a 120,000$ tournament (Which included DM !!!!!!) but, this great intro movie was included with it! How cool is that? And lastly, at the end of the video it states "In Collaboration with Martin Taff".
And I thought: who the heck is Martin Taff? (Another dumb DMer, maybe)
Fast forward over a year later, and I had found a sponsor to donate for a DM team game tournament! But who do I speak with to get this thing going? Well, none other than the grandfather of aoc himself took the entire tournament on his shoulders: Taff.
After only a few short (some not actually short) talks with Taff, we were able to generate ideas on how we would run this tournament, including such great ideas as the Draft, as well as a name for the tournament: The Uprising. Then, over the course of a few weeks, a draft of the "rules and settings", as well as this: https://youtu.be/qDncSatRT_I was created. I remember asking Taff at one point: "Don't you have a lot of other tournaments/AoC stuff to be working on besides just this?" and I remember distinctly a semi-sarcastic response along the lines of "Mate, I'm always working for AoC"
When everything was finally ready to go, and this announcement was posted on the front page: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=115127 , including a gogetfunding page for donations, the name of the poster was "Voobly". I also remember at this point having the feeling: wow, no one will ever know what work I did to make this tournament happen!... Yet, I only did maybe 1/4 as much as Taff did for this tournament.
The reason I am writing this to you guys, is that if I had never been a part of tournament organization, I would never have realized how much Taff really does for this community. Taff may as well be called the father of modern aoc, for without him, I don't think any one of us would be able to enjoy AoC as we do today.
Regardless of your opinions, anyone who puts efforts into AoC should be appreciated by us.
I've never wrote a single hashtag in my entire life, but I guess there's a first time for everything!
