Hi all. I'm a long time lurker and thought I would join the forum in the hope that someone with more knowledge than me may be able to point me in the right direction
My Problem
Basically what I'm trying to find is a custom random map that gives "fixed" starting positions in a multiplayer game on AOE2 HD (I've got the vanilla steam AOE2 HD version - no expansions apart from the included conquerors). By that I mean you know in advance which players will be in the pocket, and which players will be on the flank (but other than that the usual random map rules apply). Eg. if team 1 is players 1, 3, 5, & 7, players 1 and 7 are always on the flank and players 3 and 5 are always in the pocket.
Solutions I've found so far haven't worked
I've spent a few hours searching and trying to figure this out myself, and even write my own random map script using the "direct_placement" code, but to no avail!
One map I did find was from this post on aoezone here, which has an attachment included for a map that in theory should do this called "Fixed_Position_Arabia". However, when I try this map it doesn't work, and player spawn positions are seemingly completely random, with the below image giving an example of this where all players ended up in the south side, sometimes right on top of enemies. This map script also uses "<PLAYER_SETUP> direct_placement". It's almost like AOE2 HD doesn't recognise "direct_placement" and so defaults to something completely random?
Please help!

It might be that it's not possible to get these "direct_placement" based maps to work on AOE2 HD, and that I need to use the user mod or voobly or something? If so it would be great if someone knew!
