Simply a suggestion, most tournaments are invitation based only or have a restrictive qualification rounds with a limited number of spots.
The number 1 reason for those restrictions is often mentioned to be "time consuming" for administrators of the tournament.
What if there was an introduction of a entry free for people who want to play in qualifiers or dont make the rating cut ?
ie: 5$ per player or 10$ per team for team game tournaments. This money could go to the admin of the tourney as a wage for managing the tournament. Small price to pay for hours of fun, brings some seriousness to the tourney and allows admin to not get burned out.
Also allows robo to make more than 4$ per hour - here back in Australia we worry about our famous robo.
- Entry fee filters out the non serious participants in those qualification rounds
- Increases competition level
- Allows more players to play, provide motivation to improve and practice, brings some variety
- Admins get paid for their time, which I reckon is fair. We get to keep around those quality admin people that currently volunteer their time (Lidakor, Lanchi, Memb, T90, Robo etc).
- More material to be casted for casters (perhaps qualification rounds could be free for casters ?!)
- Upsets and surprises (2k1-2k2s causing upsets or 1900-2000 teams winning some unexpected match ups).
Just an idea, and I reckon we can apply a fee waiver for players from countries that have smaller wages or low currency values.
