DM tournaments just aren't as attractive for the broader audiences as EW or RM and that's a fact, not an opinion.
no of course it would make DM more popularAre you saying if Red Bull threw 30k at Deathmatch tourneys the size/scale/production of RBW instead of EW Deathmatch wouldn't perform better ceteris paribus?
I'm excited for an EW ranked queue. I hope they put in some maps specifically designed for EW and don't just use the standard RM maps. For example, there's no need to have black forest, arena, oasis, etc in the map pool. Would be great if we can get Kawasan, Haboob, and other ones that provided great entertainment in RBW.
I'm not sure why they can't just keep a ranked queue for DM, even if the number of people who like it are super small. In Rocket League they recently added ranked queues for all of the different game modes, even the ones that have very few active players (snowday, hoops, etc) because, why not? If people enjoy playing that type then let them keep track of their rank. You could even put it in a separate main tab of the menu if you didn't want it to distract from the other game modes.
What did you expect?ffs.
There was also this TheViper guy playing, you might've heard of him as well.ye that's irrelevant. Villese, Laan, K4sva and others you listed with the exception of TaToH and Daut are not the players who draw large audiences in.
The number of people in this community who follow tournaments for "high quality gameplay" is relatively minor in comparison to people who got drawn in because they want to cheer for their favorite players.

this. ty.More so than practically ANY other game community, the AoE 2 community should be aware of how a great game can be slept on for a long time, only to find new relevance and popularity years later. Very few people were playing Random Map games for most of AoE 2's history too, remember. It's not like there are 100,000 active players playing random map and then only "20 people" playing Deathmatch. Have you forgotten our history that quickly?
Deathmatch deserves its place in Age of Empires 2, as does any gamemode which has the capability to be competed in for a $10k tournament with >10-11k viewers on Twitch. Look at the prize pools of NAC1 and HC1. RedBull have come in and decided that they want to promote Empire Wars, which is fine and they are entitled to do that - ultimately more interest in the game is a good thing no matter the gamemode - but especially after the success of DMWC4 I think its obviously really insulting and wrong to remove the queue from ranked.
while i understand people wanting the DM ladder to stay, im willing to take a bet against your 100%. the dm games amount played is tiny if u look at aoe2.net ladderresults and lobbies, im pretty sure a EW ladder will draw a lot more players, especially around redbull events.EW ist just similar to RM and I am 100% sure it will never reach that big of a playerbase than DM ever had... So please reconsider and at least add a 3rd queue.. or give us another solution, besides lobby... Thanks in advance!
I'm not just staggered by the decision but also by the timing. Is no-one at Microsoft following the game or doing some kind of research into these things before pulling the trigger? As many have already said, this announcement came right after a very successful (and amazingly entertaining) DM tournament and based on the frequency, increasing prize pools and growing viewership of the events, Deathmatch has been picking up a lot of new fans as well. If anything, I would've assumed that the recurring successes of the DM community when it comes to organising tournaments for players of all levels would have resulted in some form of support from Microsoft, not this. What an absolutely tone deaf decision and a speedy way to turn loads of keen DE players and/or followers into grudging users of the platform.
Although my history with DM is short and I barely played it at all, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the events and interacting with the warm, helpful community. I was genuinely hoping MS would start paying more attention to the DM scene and providing them with some support, but instead they greet the community with this idiotic decision. Adding an EW ladder to the game sounds like a fine idea and I'm not against that at all, but why does that have to come at a dire cost to another game mode? This most certainly doesn't inspire any trust in their decision making.

You can see it in the PUP afaih.
Currently there's the famous FE discord were main pros and active streamers (If I'mnot mistaken T90 is here) discuss balance changes and report bugs.DEVS! create a community council of 5-10 top experts/streamers/active ladder players
Does it? I think you just wall from minute 1-3 on like people do these days on all these EW maps.EW Socotra? I'm not too well-versed in that map because I always ban it tbf, but that sounds insane.
