Empire Wars is a new game mode, exclusively introduced into Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition! In Empire Wars, players start with a small town and economy. All players start in the Feudal Age, with 27 villagers already working farms, chopping trees and mining gold. Economic buildings and a Barracks are also provided to help you build up through the early stages of the game. Empire Wars is available on all maps included with Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, although your starting town may depend on the map.
Starting Conditions
I created this thread because I didn't saw a discussion thread here. Hope this discussion thread will give some interesting insights.
My thoughts:
Personally I think this game mode is interesting and very underrated. This game mode is very similar to Starcraft. You can get into action more quickly than standard random map games. Unfortunately there isn't much tournaments going on for this game mode. Some argue that this game mode is noob-friendly and takes away Dark Age side of the game which many civs gets benefited from. But when you think about it this isn't half bad. Because we have Post Imperial Age Deathmatch game which jumps direct to action. Then again we have Regicide game mode which starts with a lot of villagers, a Castle and a different resource distribution. I think this game mode deserves some love.
Starting Conditions
- Starting in the Feudal Age

- To offset Mayan and Chinese bonuses, they don’t receive extra villagers, but also don’t start with less resources than other civilizations.

- Some maps may have variations on the Empire Wars mode, to fit their different starting conditions.
