Empire Wars Duo 2 - Announcement

I am extremely happy to announce the second edition of Empire Wars Duo - a 2 vs 2 Empire Wars tournament! With the prizepool of $20,000+ sponsored by Microsoft, the best players of the world will test their strength in 2v2 Empire Wars!

The event features 8 invited teams based on performance in previous tournaments, while an additional 8 teams will be able to qualify. The following teams are invited to the main event:

• Hera, Liereyy and Hearttt
• MbL and Nicov
• Jordan, TaToH and Nili
• Mr. Yo, Vivi and Lyx
• DauT, Slam and TheViper
• ACCM and BacT
• Dogao and Miguel
• TheMax and Villese

Prizemoney

A minimum prizepool of $20,000 sponsored by Microsoft will be on the line for the event. Additionally, LidaKor will be adding $1.00 for every subscription on his Twitch channel at the conclusion of the event.

1st place - 6000$ - (30%)
2nd place - 3000$ - (15%)
3rd and 4th place - 1500$ - (7,5%)
5-8th place - 800$ - (4%)
9-12th place - 600$ - (3%)
13-16th place - 400$ - (2%)
Lost in qualifiers - 100$ - (0,5%)

Timeline

Viewers will be able to enjoy the event in the following timeframes:

Qualifiers: 18-19th August
First round of group stage: 19-20th-21st August
Winners/Losers matches: 27-29th August
Deciders played: 2nd-3rd September
Quarterfinals: 4th September
Semifinals & Grand Finals: 5th September

The event will use recorded games for the first rounds. As such, players should refer to the Rules&Settings section [LINK] for exact playing times.

Registration

Sign-ups are open for teams of two or three (two players and one backup) players. Deadline for registration is 4th August, 23:59GMT. You can register your team here.

This looks great! Not sure if anyone will be able to beat Hera and Liereyy though, as they're the clear favourites in this format, especially with Viper's injury

this players/teams would qualify anyway and therefore reduce the chance of other teams who unluckly face them. 8 open sports is fair imo, so other teams can qualify and have a competition vs teams at there level durching qialifier finals.

inviting already 8 teams/16 players of the absolute top gives the bigger subtop more equal changes to qualify instead of less.

unless the absolute top gets bigger or the gab gets closer, this is the best way to have an equal opportunity for the bigger pool of subtop players to make it in a tournament in my opinion

I'm very triggered by the winners/deciders format because most of the time there is some series that happen two times and the first doesn't really matter.
Wish ornlu didn't make it the golden standard of every group stage with OBNC

They keep doing it for some strange reason. Although the last time they at least made the second meeting a bo5 instead of another bo3. The tournament format in that world cup 2v2 was actually horrendous

I don't like it either. Decider games with mixed groups would be way better in my oppinion.

When was the last time there was a group stage in a teamgame tournament where mixed teams could've had a chance to play against the best teams? I remember playing one like 6 years ago, and it was some great fun.

It's not like 2k-2k2 players can't win matches against top teams on certain maps with tactics and teamplay. At least give a reason for less rated players to actually try to get better and play some serious games with tournament settings. And don't come with that "just practice more and get on their level", not everyone can afford to play as many games as they wish they could.

I swear I sometimes wish I was a low elo legend, because they get more tournaments and more money than actual decent players (talking about rating-limited tournaments with 1000, 1400, 1600 ceilings), and the next step is the top 8 players tournaments.

 

Are Bugum and Daniel allowed to play?

Any schedule on that since it seems to have been a problem with recent Microsoft backed tournaments?
