Golden League Banner.jpg

Elite Gaming Channel is proud to announce: The Golden League

Spawning across eleven weekends, and with a $125,000 prize pool, The Golden League will present a refreshing structure, with two open qualifiers, three double elimination rounds (each with a unique theme) and an epic conclusion.

Players & Qualifiers:
64 players will be competing in this tournament, where only one will stand as the definitive champion. There will be four different ways to get a spot in the Golden League, and earning a spot will mean competing in all three bracket rounds.

  • 20 players will qualify though the 1v1 tournament-achievement ranking
  • 20 players will qualify though the 1v1 QS rankings
  • 20 players will qualify though the open qualifiers (ten each day)
  • 4 discretionary invitational spots

Rounds & points:
The first 6 weeks of the event will be divided into different rounds, each one with a different theme. All three rounds are double elimination, which means that players will get more games to play, more points to win and more chances to reach the elite playoffs!

The themes are as follow:

  • Open Battlefield: Here, players will be playing only open maps. Fast-paced games, full of action from the very beginning
  • Off-Meta Combat: The three most-winning civilization from each map will be banned. This will force combatants to come up with new strategies for each battleground
  • Exclusive Civilizations: Here the participants will be drafting civilizations in an exclusive way, resulting in unconventional match-ups and no mirrors.
Each round will grant points, which will allow eight players to advance to the Elite Playoffs. This will consist round robin, and then a playoff over a Final 4 wekeend.

Dates:

Qualifiers 1: 19th March
Qualifiers 2: 20th Match

From March 26th until The 29th of May, each Saturday and Sunday will be packed with action and elite-level AOE IV games.

Each one of the three bracket rounds will take two weekends. Finally, the Elite Playoffs will take place during the final four weekends.

Of course, all the event will be covered by the Elite Gaming Channel’s official Twitch.
We invite all of you to join the official discord.

You can find more detailed information about the event in this infographic. Handbook will be publish shortly.

I feel like N4C was the first barrel, this is the second barrel (wow, what an investment in this league!), and now we wait for the river.

If these can't save AoE4, then I don't know what will (will they continue to improve the game and move on to adding civs in DLCs if it literally crumbles to AoE1/3 steam numbers?).

is there any news on next patch for aoe4 ? or will it be the spring update directly or a minor patch before that? I remember reading about mongol nerfs/water meta overhaul being in next patch/update. It would be cool if that hits before n4c or this league.

As an Age Franchise fan (not only AoE2), I am sad to see so much negativity here. If it's not a tournament you like, just don't watch. Don't show your insecurities here - AoE2 fans. I also play AoE2 but I am happy that AoE4 is getting tournaments as well.

Game is not ideal now but you never know what it's gonna bring in future.

The same comments will keep coming as long as aoe2 keeps getting shafted for this garbage called aoe4.

If aoe2 was getting similar support from MS, I couldn't care less how much they pump into aoe4. Our unbiased tournament coordinator @Nili_AoE is doing a great job without any conflicts

Thanks for all of those offering their support, it's really appreciated.

That said, some of the level of entitlement from some (hopefully a minority) of y'all on this forum is just seriously out of this world. Like another level of delusion.

The 'competition' between AOE II and AOE IV is something that only exists over here. You will never come on an AOE IV stream and see people celebrating bad numbers for an AOE II event, or low viewing figures on Twitch. And what's incredibly sad is that it completely contradicts the reputation of AOE communities. Actively urging failure is just so un-AOE. I mean whatever, a lot of you hate IV, and that's fine, you don't have to like anything. It's also fine to just like AOE II so much that you instinctively hate everything you see as a threat. But when you choose to channel that into actively trying to drag AOE IV down instead of pulling AOE II up, it's just a little pathetic.

But most of all, the sheer level of entitlement regarding tournaments over here is like an illness. The fact that many of you apparently believe this is all just AOE2 getting shafted. As if you're actually waking up and believing there's some kind of divine right to repeated $100k AOE II tournaments. It doesn't cross some of your minds that MAYBE the reason we're getting some contribution for AOE IV events is that we're bringing sponsors, cash and production ourselves. If we were bringing the same proposition for an AOE II event, then this would likely be a $125k AOE II tournament. It's borderline comedy when some of these comments read as if sponsorship is like a birthday present, rather than a commercial arrangement. Why do you think Wololo happened? They weren't a gift! They happened because someone brought a commercial arrangement!

None of this is a dig at AOE II or it's fans, I thought and still think that AOE II has a fantastic game and fantastic community. But a lot of you on this forum need to take a proper look at yourselves. The amount of legitimate bullying and toxicity on this forum is wild and a stain on the wider community.

Whatever, rant over I guess. For what it's worth, every AOE II TO and community figure I've interacted with is fantastic. I just hope some of the folk on this forum can be a little better.

Exactly this.

Shi.t is totally getting out of control. We just had an Aoe2 Hyperrandom tournament with ~6k viewers on twitch at the end, which is probably a comparable viewer number to whatever this golden league of Aoe4 will have. But while the Hyperrandom tournament (which was fantastic by the way) had no funding at all (and <$1k in pricepool), this aoe4 molden league gets $125k???????

i mean, what the actual eff, how can people be surprised about negative comments about such an announcement?

Do you realise how ridiculous you sound?

First, the platitudes about how great the Aoe community is, whilst you ride off into the sunset on the back of the viewership Aoe2 built up for itself. Aoe2 has a higher viewership than Aoe4, and it was streamers who built their careers on Aoe2 that gave Aoe4 the initial boost. Recent Aoe2 tournaments have higher viewer numbers yet it is Aoe4 that have just had 2 100K+ tournaments announced? You waffle on about it being commercially driven but can't explain why Aoe2, with higher viewers, is receiving less funding.

Absolute nonsense

yo I don't care about the whole aoe2 vs aoe4 ordeal, but I just had to giggle at myself cause I didn't realize this post was about a tourney for aoe4 until I started reading the comments. Probably just me being stupid and skipping the trailer but had a good laugh at myself about it.

Chill EGC, we're not trying to hate Aoe4 or drag it down. Honestly, the game doesn't need anyone to drag it down, it's managing to achieve that itself.

Merely pointing that out shouldn't offend you. And if it does, just try to improve the game instead of throwing more money at the handful of players playing it.

Spending $200k on Aoe4 is like spending your 2000 wood on 10 monasteries with Sicilians when you're against Aztecs.

I don't think this should offend anyone because ofcourse Aoe4 folks won't get this joke.

There’s literally no point in engaging over here. If you can’t read the utter delusion in what you’re writing it’s just a hopeless task.

I literally explained why exactly AOE4 events are getting more funding. They’re getting more funding because I am bringing more funding. There you have it in literally one sentence. If I brought sponsors and money to AOE2 then this would be a $125k AOE2 event. If Red Bull decide to do another Wololo you’ll get another $100k+ AOE2 event. This isn’t rocket science. This isn’t a very complicated concept. I’m the biggest single investor in AOE e-sports and I’m telling you exactly what it takes to get bigger events.

I’ve contemplated doing an AOE2 event repeatedly and spoken to other TO’s about doing it. But I’m honestly just so put off by this toxicity that I increasingly want nothing to do with it.

So again, for those in the back:

AOE4 is getting this $125,000 event because I’m putting up a lump of cash to make it viable. AOE4 will continue getting big events because I’ll continue putting up lumps of cash to make major AOE4 events. If this event gets a CCV of 1,000 I’ll still do it because I want to and I can.

If you don’t like it then instead of crying about why Microsoft won’t shower you in money, go raise $50k, go to Nili, tell him you’d like to do a big event and you’re bringing cash to the table too. That’s your formula. That’s always been the formula. For everyone. For every game in the franchise.

Alternatively you can continue with incoherent rants at the only person currently pumping money into the AOE e-sports scene. Which appears to be going great.

Go on then, keep acting like a petulant child. Or, you could tell us how much Microsoft is putting into the event? Oh, and it suited your narrative to ignore the money Microsoft put into N4C didn't it? It's almost like it's not just sponsors like yourself that have lead to big money tournaments, it's Microsoft too. Aaaand your argument collapses

The problem I have with this thread is, there are other places to rant about MS funding or whatever. I am all for AoE2 but it is good to have respect for the people working on a project and those who would enjoy watching it. Just move this conversation to another place.

PS. @Bowserlord, thank you for proving there is no moral high ground for the AoE4 community in this situation.

N4C follows the exact same formula he just told you about.

Nili estimates the event to cost 215k dollars in total.
Microsoft gave the event 95k which means Nili will either have to find sponsors to cover the rest or pay from his own pocket.

Imagine a world where NiLi had done Nac4 for aoe 2 and then EGCTv announced 125k for age 4.

Best of both worlds. No one would fuss except a few.

BUT Sadly that didnt happen. I cant believe that NiLi allowed 2 major aoe 4 back to back. One could have been aoe2.

Oh and, about you wanting to do an Aoe2 event, why did you only contemplate that after the launch of Aoe4? What was stopping you before then? Does it have anything to do with you trying to corner the market of Aoe4 which you couldn't do in Aoe2?

Yeah I know, I respect you Masmorra so please don't take this the wrong way but I don't see how that changes my point. The point being that the 200K+ into Aoe4 is largely down to Microsoft, not down to external companies alone, which is what this other guy has been claiming.

I wanted to become the dominant TO in AOE4 because it was a fresh start and a level playing field where I could achieve that. AOE2 was a crowded scene. I didn't have the ecosystem in terms of community, casters etc to make it happen, whereas now there would likely be a more viable opportunity. I was always a huge AOE fan (3) and wanted to do something special in the scene. AOE4 game me an opportunity to do something special in a game that I love.

This other guy hasn't claimed it's down to external companies alone. This other guy has claimed that big events happen when external funds are brought as part of the equation. This other guy has been pretty transparent that Microsoft are a major sponsor too.

Again: External sponsors + funds = Microsoft support = Big event.

there will always be this bickering between stans of either games until ppl understand that they are different games why this other guy post his rubbish on aoe4 threads is beyond me

im fully onboard with aoe2de, heck it s literally the only game I ever bought with my hard earned cash in my life . having said that, im not gonna jump on other people s hard work to score a point. bugger off.

I posted "this rubbish" here because this other bloke posted a scathing attack on Aoe2 fans who think that too much money is being given to Aoe4.

Note the disingenuity of this "Elite" Gaming Channel: He makes the point that he would have considered doing an Aoe2 tournament but was put off due to toxicity. I then point out that he could've done that before, and suggest that he is backing Aoe4 to corner the market. He then admits this, thus destroying the suggestion that he would've ever sponsored a huge Aoe2 tournament. Deceitful guy tbh

Alright that's me done with AoEZone for the day. Despite your aggressive (and at points incoherent) approach, I've tried to give you a transparent and honest look behind the scenes of what happens and why.

What you want, however, is an echo chamber. So I will leave you to it.
