Elite Gaming Channel presents Genesis: The first AoE IV Tournament

We're incredibly excited to announce the first ever S-Tier major tournament of Age of Empires IV: GENESIS. This will be a completely open event, with a $20,000 prize pool, at the end of which we'll crown the first ever AOE IV champion!

The event will be open for streaming, both for casters and players, in order to ensure maximum exposure. For now the headline information is that open qualifying will be at 3pm GMT on 6th November, during which we'll whittle down from 512 all the way to a final 8. Those 8 players will play the Main Event on 13th and 14th November.

We always knew that GENESIS would be a little unfair

First of all that's not a good way to start a statement about fairness but I won't dwell on it. Since topic has come to fairness, I want to mention something:

In last 12 months and earlier, I saw 5-6 paragraph posts from players, when they believe they are mistreated during tournaments. Some examples that popped up in a minute in my mind: Aftermath's explored map controversy after Hera resigned, Viper's HC4 home map drama, Chrazini and Bugum's latest admin decision controversy and many others that I can't remember now.

And all of these pros are not even posting a word now, where are those loooong statements when you are in a powerful position that benefits from unfairness?

PS: Hera, Viper, Chrazini, Bugum. Since your name is mentioned, don't get me wrong, this is not a post directed to you guys personally, those are just latest examples that I can remember. Almost every top player has such history.

 

So now MS is not sponsoring the tournament only world's edge does? Excuse me what is this nonsense? If I give my child money to buy some candy on saturday but she comes back house with a small smelly piglet, who should I blame? The seller? The piglet's parent's?

 

It is not the players fault, nor the organizers. It is unfortunate. The organizers couldn't know, the players shouldn't be punished for the developers strange decisions. Let's just take this tourney with a grain of salt, it will most likely be not as fair a tournament as they hoped, which is sad; they probably aimed to create a more even ground by trying to time it so everyone is new. Ironically, that made it more unfair.

But do the pro players want to win free money by beating some noob who had no time to practice and not do anything about it? like boycot


There would be one silver lining: ONLY players with early access can play this tournament, thus the fault will be partly on the organizers and partly on aoe management

 

idk, I feel like it's not the best idea to have a tournament for game when no one had time to learn it properly. And half of viewers won't have idea what's happening in the game

it is not a "Competition tournament", it is a "marketing tournament" with big prize pool to lure people into buying the game

World's Edge is basically MS' Studio responsible for AoE. So I would be surprised if these were seperate in their sponsorship.

Neither MS nor WE sre sponsoring the tournament. All 20k are coming from Elite Gaming Channel.

And just to be clear, there's no interest from the Organizer in having a particular player winning. So no, we're not trying to give free cash to any player. EGC just wants to offer a entertaining tournament

 

Why do people have to be so negative and pick holes in everything. Nothing on this world is ever going to be 100% perfect for everyone, enjoy the games or don't, partake or don't, just stop complaining. Be grateful that anyone is putting money into AOE, 1,2,3 or 4.

All large tourneys announced recently have a load of nitpicking posts, it gets tiresome.

According to the Elite Gaming website this is how seeding is done for Saturday:
#1-#20 - The AOE IV ranked ladder
#21-#43 - Recent record among AOE II pro players
#44-#48 - Recent record among AOE III pro players
#49-#54 - Recent record among non-AOE RTS players
#55-#62 - Recent record among AOEO and AOM pro players
#63-#64 - AOE II//III Personalities (must be playing at highest level)

Some questions: 1) Do second accounts with low number of games played count for seeding the top 20 (see: Kasva); 2) What does "recent record" mean here? Recent record in their game or recent record in aoe4? 3) Probably too late to change this, but why more spots for AOEO and AOM than for starcraft (other RTS) players? If you want the best players this makes zero sense. 4) How will you decide on spots 63 & 64?

3)because a lot of Aoeo/AoM players shown interest, while not msny of SC2. Also, there a huge SC2 event happening at the same time. For example, we offered an invitation to Serral, but he declined due to that

The top 20 ranking has had a consistent 30% rotating in and out from sc2.

When you look at the top 100 or 200 players you definitely notice more sc2 players of many different levels.

Given the fact sc2 has been in maintenance mode for the last 6 years it not suprising to see this and the sc2 scene is magnitudes larger then aoe2, aoe3, aom & aoo all out together.

 

Is the seeding available anywhere? I can find participants but in no particular order

 

I lasted 3 minutes watching the tournament of this so called aoe 4 game... even Memb's casting doesn't help it's straight up terrible to watch xD

Right now among 20k across 4 biggest channels, more if you count all the small.

So succes as qualifyer IMO, officiall channels got 7k+ prob gonna bump in the last rounds

memb has 2k and nili isn't streaming. Viper nor t90 are streaming on FB(viper is playing though).

 

So Hera, theviper and Kasva qualified to main event. 3 aoe2 players, 3 starcraft players and 2 aoeo/aom players. Marinelord vs Mista game next week gonna be great.

 

Allthough I am a bit disappointed that tatoh didnt make it in, considering how much he loves unconvetional and new settings, it's nice to see that Kasvas hard practice paid off and he managed to advance to the final stage, congrats

 

So 3 out of 8 players qualified are pure AoE2 players with TheViper, Kasva and Hera and 2 others have recently played AoE2 on a high level as well with MarineLorD and RecoN.

From the runner-ups, 5 are AoE2 players as well (TaToH, Villese, Sora Kuma, JorDan and Capoch), so it definitely seems like the skills transfer over pretty well. Of course it's a bit early to say if that'll stay the same or that once there will be a more defined meta other players will rise, especially considering 7 out of 8 players that made the Main Event had early access

Not really. All from Aoe2/3/online /mytologies or Warcraft/Starcraft

 

The game is surprisingly fun to play and exciting to watch (much more than what i expected). Some games today were insane.

 

Maybe I’m just too old but I couldn’t make it through a few minutes. Tried to give it a fair shot, too.

 

Hi, is there any timetable to watch the tournament? I can't find any timeframe for quarter, semi-final and final.
