I was surprised by the number of people who believe in god, I honestly thought the average user was an atheist. So here goes the poll, this goes for any kind of god.
How can you possibly know that? Do you really think the universe is so simple and the answer to our existence is so clear cut? I realize that this question can go both ways but that is exactly the point. The discussion is essentially redundant as we will never even come close to answering the fundamental existential questions like how matter or the first DNA strands formed. I do not believe in god in any traditional sense either but I sure don't have a better explanation for how we came to be. We and everything around us have to have been created sometime and somewhere in one form or another. What set this in motion if not a god?option 3 is a bit shy. I know there is no such thing as a god, or anything else, apart from in the minds of people.
Wouldn't you rather have him make it the only option then? You could have left out the 2nd option, because nobody knows.

I don't know what kind of acid you got your hands on but the fundamental error in your post is that you can never guarantee objectivity because you, like everyone else, have your own subjective experience of reality. Furthermore, science can do little more than describe the mechanics of our universe rather than explain our or the universe's origin.Streamking said:
yes absolutely, with all my heart, soul and mind.
i have been there, i have seen it all and lived through it. I have been in the place "god" ought to be and what i found was just a fake board-figure. Philosophy, science and objective observation of the ratio are your only sources of truth. As long as you keep looking elsewhere you are fooling yourself and wasting your soul.
Option 1 is not "My parents had sex"I know that I live so I picked option 1

I'm assuming you mean rationality when you say ratio. No human is completely free of bias. People who act or think 'irrationally' are not making a conscious choice to act irrationally. What is irrational to you is potentially rational to other people. This is what the subjectivity of our existence means.it is not about experience but about ratio. A rational mind does not let itself be confused by non-existent constructs or non-proven stories. It takes intellectual discipline, like a runner runs every day, to be objective. It enables one to see the difference between reality and imaginary stuff. Well, this sounds like something, but its quite obvious actually, its a thing all humans are capable off, if they allow themselves to think free and untroubled.

Yeah being an atheist and scientist centuries ago was for sure the smartest thing to survive or to be acknowledge.
Juts because you believe in something it doesn't make it real.
Their staus as scientists hardly gives them more credibility. Scientists are not omnipotent. Science is nowhere close to providing an answer to our existence.I am not sure if that is in direct response to me. If it was, reread it slowly. It misses what I was asking.

I understand but I would like to propose that these individuals may have realized that every question answered raises a multitude of other questions and that we will likely never be able to determine what existence sprung from. One might even argue that the 'rational' thing to do then is to put your faith in a god who comes with a promise of paradise in the afterlife since that belief will not have any impact on the afterlife if god does not exist.I believe that's precisely why it gives them 'more' credibility than say, a religious person with little scientific education. Scientists can be considered truth seekers without any real bias; they are scientists after all. Science is ultimately the pursuit of truth. Would you consider religion in that exact same sense? That's why a scientist concieving the idea/suddenly believing God exists takes a much different meaning. I could give a specific example between two (believe I sort of did), but don't see it necessary.
Also, I sort of foresee this becoming like the other topic on religion. I am not interested in going there/wasn't my intention. Just curious where some stand on the matter (when I saw Brainless' post), if they are willing to speak about it.

Absence of proof is not proof of absence. So it is absolutely rational to think that god exist.it is not about experience but about ratio.
