with ghulams the comp is much better against champs/2HS, which is (excluding infantry UUs and crazy expensive comps) the best counter to halb/eagle

So ghulams are like eagles except without one of the major weaknesses of eagles.

Ghulams lose pretty convincingly against Champs. Luckily they have roided out hand cannoneers with +2 range and extra armour.

Are you sure? Idk but people in Jordan's chat (trusting chat ikr) seemed to think that ghulams beat champs in decent numbers because of the pass-through damage. That is the way it seemed from the fights as well as Jordan's champs were getting completely obliterated by the Ghulams+Halbs combo.

It seems to be an infantry unit good against both infantry and archers.

I had a teamgame a while back where I was ethiopians and the hindustani player across me went for ghulam, and even with ethiopian 2hs I absolutely destroyed the ghulam once I made the tech switch.

Honestly they have no weakness now, one of the best economic bonus in the game that kicks in from the start, solid army compositions in castle age and imperial age, their camel line got insanely buffed, despite losing one attack for the imp camel and 1 PA their camels beat other camels while having such a strong eco bonus behind, usually you could beat indians in the past with ranged civs or meso civs, but now with those HC and their new UU indians just win against meso civs.

Ghulam beats champ if they take the fight in crowded or tight spaces on open field they lose, but that unit actually changed the field, hindustanis will be one of the most abused civs in red bull.

Just increase the food cost of Ghilman and (maybe) take away something of the tech tree (don't know what) as Hera said, then are fine.

Seige elephants are cheat unit? Why?

They have their strengths and weaknesses. But overall, I think they're weaker than rams. They get completely melted by pikes and halbs, which means the new Indian civs struggle hard to push in late game.

Yeah but how does that compare to 11 archers not being able to fit onto a transport ship but 10 elephants can? Not even cersei Lannister was able to accomplish that unrealistic feat.

Honestly though, elephants taking down buildings is a lot more realistic than many other stuff in aoe2 11, even with siege elephants.
An elephant clad in armour dealing far less damage than regular elephants, and even losing to wild elephant in single combat......for example

Champs win in equal numbers and are also cheaper. People in Jordan's chat are wrong.

But need 12 upgrades so switching tech into champions takes forever and get countered by mixing in some HC that need almost no upgrades and are very strong for Hindustani.

Their camels are evenly matched in castle age although Gurjaras have a slight edge due to faster production (and the ability to make some camel scouts on the way up to castle age), but once they get Kshatriyas they dominate, then with Frontier Guards on top it is not even close. If Hindustani player goes for halb or champ or ghulam they get wrecked by chakram throwers, and hand cannons really struggle when shrivamsha riders are fielded. So Elite Shrivamsha Rider + Elite Chakram Thrower should dominate Hindustanis every time.
