Starting in June and lasting until early August the Death Match World Cup is back once again and bigger than ever! Boasting a $10,000 prizepool, half contributed by Microsoft, the other half by the community!

Can TheViper defend his crown or will True regain his former title? Can long-standing DM greats Jidba or TheCode become victorious, or maybe some RM pros will rise and shine?

I like it, but why start the same week of the BoA2 finals? Why can't it start the 8th june?

The number of events that are happening people are going to need to get used to the early rounds (that are the least interesting) clashing with the finals of previous events.

Excited for the tournament! Just got into some deathmatch games after watching Nilis cast and POV of WCDM 2 last week. I'm already top 150 in the world after 10 games played so I don't think qualifications needs to be too wide a pool.

 

I'm never was super interested in DM, so I would like to know: which expert player we can expect to see shine here, that are not pro/top players in regular games? Just to create some hype, you know...

Viper and Code were trading matches in the finals of DMWC2. We will probably see a lot of the same players as the previous tournament but we have 4 new civs and balance changes. I think LaaaaaN has had a lot of DM experience, but I'm team Dragonstar.

Depends on what exactly you mean by this. If it's just 'who is a contender who wasn't in the last 16 of HC3 or RBW,' then the best bet is one of the pure DM players - True, Leash, Jidba, Code and Daywalker are probably the biggest names out of those.

If you mean which player we're familiar with from RM is going to beat players they normally wouldn't in RM, then it's Nili and Rubenstock, who were 5th and 6th seeds respectively in DMWC2, with Nili actually beating Daywalker (4th seed) to make the winner bracket semifinals in that tourney.

But yes, Viper is the favourite for this one too.

 

Stoked to see how this tournament unfolds. Doubt Viper(or any RMer) will come out on top, should be a relatively easy W for one of the QuEnDi boys.

What makes you think that? You know that in the last DM tournaments Viper has consistently beaten the DM pro players?

Also, even excluding all the RM’ers, as long as Code and Jidba are around, it’s never gonna be an easy W for any of the quendis

It's still 11 Days till sign up ends.
As it was with Empire Wars I would expect that a lot of players will try DM now, especially since there is Matchmaking for DM (which is not for EW).
This Tournament could make DM way more popular, even without a sponsor like redbull.

 

jesus I leave AOE2 for a year and when I graduate school I see Microsoft is sponsoring DM tournaments...
