DE lag? need advice

Hello,

installed DE on my computer 2 days ago, before that i was still playing in Voobly.
The first game i played was a 4v4 in the Lobby Browser on West Europe server (where i live). The game was almost lag-free in imperial age and felt like playing the AI in early game, with absolutely 0 Lag.

However, in ranked queue 1v1s, the game keeps slowing down for a few seconds, just to speed up like crazy for 1-3 seconds to catch up. Its not all the time like this, but its happening quite often.

So my question here is what is causing this? Maybe Opponents who dont have the best connection, or the servers which might not be West Europe servers cant keep up with the traffic?

Or is the problem on my end? If yes, what is the cause of this kind of lag? a) my computer beeing to weak, simple hardware problems? or b) the internet connection in my place is to weak and i need faster internet?

Well sometimes those servers lag like hell, if you got freelag games before, it is not your hardware.

mostly UK servers. i played one on US West server which was a lot better.. seems to be a server issue then

Hi, don't know if you already found the solution to this..but for me the fix was fowarding ports 3478 (UDP & TCP) and 5222 (UDP and TCP).

I have the same issue. I THINK it's related to the UK server... but the strange thing is that it ONLY AFFECTS RANKED 1v1 games. I can play ranked 4v4s on the UK server (or most any other server) and have a lag-free game, but the vast majority of my 1v1 ranked games (all incidentally pointed toward the UK server even though I play at a time when the Brits should be sleeping) are terrible.

Any thoughts as to why this could be? It's not PC lag, if the little clocks next to player names are accurate. And it seems specific to 1v1 ranked games. I can't say whether 1v1 ranked games on other servers are affected because my sample size of playing 1v1s on other servers is too small (the few games on other servers have been fine).

I used to have this problem too on my previous laptop which was not that good (and I had a weaker internet signal too back then ).

What helped for me strangely enough was turning on V-Sync in the options menu. The speeding up issues dissapeared.

I am experiencing a lot of lag in MP games since a month now. I use my vpn now. its better, not great, but its playable. At least much better then the 5 sec stop, 5 sec forward lag I have without the vpn.

Has anybody else tried forwarding the ports or enabling v-sync?

Also if you are getting lag, please use the official forum. there are multiple threads. the more people complain and describe their problems, the more devs know about it and try to fix.

Multiplayer is laggy in current patch

I have the same issue since the last patch. The game gets extremely laggy and the units respond 3-10 seconds after i clicked them. My game almost freezes entirely too and then tries to cacht up and goes fast forward. I lost so many games because of that issue. But it only occurs in ranked 1vs1...

Also, I experience the lag on my PC since they have done server maintenance "officially" in April. I did a lot of things to fix lag thinking it was on my end like, reinstalling the game, changing game from HDD to SSD and so on to find that lag was not on my end and it was from Brazil Server or UK server.

Thank god I saw your message on time because I was going to upgrade my PC (which is quite hard at the current situation now) without knowing the lag was from server side.

I’ve been experiencing a lot of “red-clock” lag since the last patch even though I had zero problems before. Probably roughly every eighth game. How do I check if these matches have been played on the UK server? I’d like to contribute to the sample, however I can’t seem to find which server my matches are played on in the match history.

Thank you, turns out I never actually logged in.

It appears the "red-clock" lag is random for though, since almost all of my games are played on the UK server and only in a few do I experience lag.

I had my game stop for ~45 game seconds yesterday... Luckily after that it sped up at 10x normal speed and I was back to normal /s

It fixed the speeding issue I had previously. Slowing down and catching back up like TS described. I have no idea why but it stopped after that.

Do you have in game lag like stuttering or input lag, or the issue with the game slowing down and speeding up? For me it didn't fix lag related issues but it did for the speeding issue slowing down and catching up.

Stuttering and the game slowing down and speeding up. Input lag is barely noticeable though.

The lag seriously affect the game experience for me. You just can't play the ranking games.

It works ok for me. doesnt fix all the lag but makes it playable. just get a free try-out month from a vpn service and see if it fixes the lag. maybe it helps until the next patch hopefully fixes this lag problem. I use nordvpn, the have a 30 day get your money back thingy. sometimes I cant log into multiplayer tho using the vpn. see my "bug report" for this https://forums.ageofempires.com/t/can-not-log-into-mp-when-using-a-vpn/81404
