I truely wonder why people, who it would be fair to make the assumption - are generally adults, can be so bitter over a video game.Do you ever bother to stop and ponder why those people might be bitter?
I ponder if the childish tantrums over aoe4 gaining any type of success is due to an amount of people who are like this possibly having a legitimate mental disability, or if it is simply a generation or community that has never learned that all good things come to an end.
Whilst Aoe2 is certainly not near its end, I think it's unreasonable to expect it will stick around forever.
Maybe it's a different genre, but I come from a truely dead game (Wolfenstein et) which is lucky to have 30 people online from around the world on any given day, and maybe gets streamed on twitch once every 6 months.. am I bitter that similar but, in my opinion, not as good games now populate the market such as valorant, call of duty, or cs:go?
Not at all.. I can still jump on and have fun without wishing the downfall of those other games.
But, I also have a life outside of the game.
I havnt been on these forums for long, but it appears to be a "trend" within the Aoe2 community to think it's cool to say Aoe2 is the best game ever invented and anything that takes away from that - such as a new game being released that a small tiny minority of players have found they enjoy more and are no longer playing your favourite game, should be insulted and made redundant.
Personally, as a mature adult - I would suggest that everyone be prepared that one day, something will replace Aoe2. Its unlikely to be aoe4, but it could very well be aoe5... And to be prepared that you're life won't be over the day that happens.
As long as 50 people around the world play Aoe2, you will always be able to jump online and have fun - you don't need other games to fail so that you can have fun.
In saying that, I have had a wonderful amount of people from the Aoe2 community private message me and tell me how not everyone within the community acts how the majority of these forums appear.
These people are the reason I will continue to support Aoe2, even though I don't play it. I don't need to be afraid that Aoe2 will make aoe4 a redundant game, because at the end of the day.. it's just a game.
Yes, it's possible that the release of aoe4 was, one of many, contributing factors that may have affected people's choice to host tournaments and other things, but if it's that important to you - you CAN always put the money up and host your own tournament, or put the hours in and even become a pro player yourself with enough practise.. but what I don't get, is being bitter about other people either deciding they enjoy something else or that their careers (everything from Microsoft develops, to streamers) could be further developed by doing something else. I don't get how anyone could be so bitter they could hope that someone's career, their way of supporting their family and keeping a roof over their head could fail - that they should do what you say or become homeless and have their children suffer, what I don't get is telling someone else that they shouldn't enjoy something they like doing, because it's inferior to what you enjoy - that they should conform to doing what's popular because you want them to, rather than the smaller niche they really like.
I want to finish by saying Aoe2 is by far the more popular game, and no one in the aoe4 community wants to change that. Those who do, are very quickly called out on how the success of either game doesn't affect them.
Both games can and should co-exist, and if it's correct to assume that many people here have been playing the franchise for 20 plus years, the best way to ensure the continuation of the franchise is to support all games within the franchise, even if you don't like them.
The quickest way to end the franchise entirely as a whole is the obsession that many people seem to have in comparing the two games.
If you have more insight on how anyone could be so bitter about others doing what's best for them, when they are making no contribution other than creating toxicity within their own community, I would love to hear and ponder on it, because I truely don't understand how anyone could be like that, especially within an adult community.
