There have also been a few big patches since the game was released, addressing some of the gripes with the game. If the game had been released in its current state a year ago, it might have actually killed AoE2

Both games were always very likely going to be able to coexist. Things looked grim for AOE4 for a few months, but it has lately found its more loyal (if more niche compared to AOE2) fanbase.

aoe4 player numbers over last few weeks are like when countries continue to print money to boost economy, at first things look great but then go into a big downward spiral.

these artificial boosts (huge discounts, free weeks) are good if the base product is good, I would give it 3 months to get back to average of 6k (like 2 months back)

in addition to that a big part of its current playerbase are rts refugees, not particulary aoe fans. They will leave again as soon as a new rts will be released.

Refugees never leave. You either integrate or there will be chaos, confirmed in Turkey, right now.

I'm guessing you were not blessed with the gift of reading comprehension when you came into this world.

Those are the 6-7k avg players you mention.
How could I be talking about the 20k or 30k that the sale brought? It would make no sense because those numbers would be well ABOVE the player numbers of AOE2, and therefore would contradict my whole statement.
So yes, that's about where the more loyal playerbase of AOE4 is, so far Around 5k at its worst, closer to 7k at its best.

Nope, further out zoom in is built in now

Theres been a bunch of things changed since release eg: there are even mods for Aoe2 style missing arrows.

I'm sure I missed this on a thread somewhere, but what were the live viewer numbers for T90's TTL Grand Final? Maybe those numbers are hard to find since it's on different platforms/channels now?? I saw on YT that T90's video has 130k views but what was the live peak?

I think it was quite low for a T90 tournament

13K on twitch. Maybe like 6-8K combined in other platforms. A safe estimate would be 19K probably.

These numbers are not bad. A final Viper-Larry/Yo/Hera would probably bring 30k viewers easily

Nah, BOA peaked at probably 30K, and that was the most hype finals with highest level performance and the closest series we could've asked for.

I think the finals between Viper/Hera would've hit 25K at best, overall.

A 75k peak wouldn't really surprise me, tbh. The advantage of having multiple games shown is that there are always people from all games that stick around for other games that they mainly watch purely due to the production quality and continuous flow of the event. Also, with RBW5 they have shown their insane production capabilities, which will surely attract a very large number of people again. The pricepool that has been increased massively for aoe2 alone, let alone all games, will also add to the excitement for many people.
Then again, people are working from home less than last year so RBW5 may have been an artificially boosted number of viewers. Still, I must admit my expectations for RBW:L are very high!

Well not sure if that's really the truth. Didn't look much into it, but if nothing changed much, I would imagine T90 has way more views on youtube, although memb nowdays after T90 left to fb has way more constant live viewers. And last HC had crazy numbers, but not sure how much that was affected by quarantine too. I feel you are correct in fan base, however I think most of T90 base is casual players/viewers who do watch youtube, mostly not even high level play and many of them might not watch tournaments live. While most Memb's viewers will watch tournament, as Memb's content is based way more on high level. At one point he was playing a lot of BF, but for example lately he mostly casting high level and playing some 1v1. I might be wrong or right to some degree, but my point is, if people love watching low elo legends and similar stuff doesnt mean they will watch tournament, especially live. If most would follow as easily, he would have more viewers on FB I suppose. We didn't really see any proper tournament after his move nor when people were able to freely move out after covid. I really doubt he could gather now same numbers as he had for HC.
