Current Situation on Aoe4 and Aoe2

I'm a bit of an insider in the crypto community, I've been offered money from projects to promote them.

I don't think you guys realize how much these crypto companies are willing to throw at people. Viper could very well have been offered 100k for like 10 tweets. I obviously don't know the number, but I know in a bull market, these companies are willing to absolutely make it rain.

It doesn't excuse Viper for not doing his due dilligence on the project and the team, but I'm 100% he never meant to scam his community. He was very likely offered something that was very hard to refuse and doesn't know much about crypto and how to do research and he fell for it...

I don't know the accurate stats for DWL, didn't watch finals live, but yesterday aoe2 got 8K+ viewers in twitch during semis itself.
This was after the ~ 11K twitch viewers for RoTC

The game keep going strong, but no major S tier tourneys. WTF?

Wonder what Golden league stats are so far, anyone knows?

The good thing is that this forum has became again a place to talk about AoE2, You see threads about the maps, balance, bugs, tourneys, even crypto "scams" by AoE2 players, AoE4 is so irrelevant now, that the debate lasted only 4 months.

There's a 10k 4vs4 Tournament, a 4k 2vs2 Tournament, a 10k 1vs1 Tournament and we know sooner or later there's a big 3vs3 Tournament coming.
In the past weeks we also had other Tournaments which just ended, with tons of top players participating (RotC, MoS2, DWL2).
Sounds to me pretty disrespectful towards the organizers of those Tournaments when ppl say there would be "no tournaments".

And that's exactly what I call spoiled.
HC1 was an A-Tier Tournament only 4 years ago, the first editions of HC, NAC and KotD all together had a smaller prizepool then Jordys new Tournament.
Nili mentioned several times that he is interested in NAC4 (proly not 2022) and nowadays he's streaming both aoe4 and aoe2, so saying it won't happen ever again seems baseless to me.
HC5 will always be just a matter of time, but so what if it doesn't happens this year (which he didn't say in Masmoras Interview).
Yes there are less S-Tier Tournaments so far, but for that A-Tier Tournaments went to another level and it's just pure disrespect to act like there's "no Tournament" to talk about.

Lol, expecting pro scene to be at least somewhat comparable to past year is "spoiled". Wanting the scene to grow is spoiled too I suppose. With your attitude in 2017, aoe2 would've been stuck in 2017 forever or dwindled.

Why are you comparing to 4 years ago, when DE wasn't out and when aoe2 pro scene was far less popular? What purpose does that serve? To show that we aren't in 2017 yet?
That shouldn't be the benchmark to compare to, if you want aoe2 to keep up the momentum or get bigger.

T90 said HC isn't happening this year most likely, due to a variety of reasons (current enthusiasm amongst pros, issues surrounding movement to FB etc).
But he will probably host some tournament in this year.

If we use Liquipedia's "S-tier" for now, 'cos that is what the average viewer will check (remember, they list $10k for S-tier nowadays):

3 in 2017: $30k Nation Cup, others around $5k
KoTD, Nation Cup 3, Escape Gaming Euro cup

2 in 2018: $6k, $2k
BoA, NAC

5 in 2019: each around $10-15k
KoTD 2, NAC2, HC2, Mangrove Cup, ECL LAN

5 in 2020: each around $30-50k
NAC 3, HC 3, BoA2, KOTD3, 2v2 World Cup

5 in 2021: around $80k for HC/KoTD, $10-15k for Holy/2pool, Open ~$30k

I don't think having 3 in the first half year is behind schedule for 2022 in S-Tier tournaments, and the viewers don't actually get money from the prizepool, so unless you meant "30k+" tournaments instead of S-tier, I think people are just simply wrong.

Not sure about that, I think with your attitude of "why is there no Nations Cup / WIC / Clan Masters, no Tournaments here to talk about" the big 3 would never have gotten as big as they are nowadays.
And that's what I meant, wanting the scene to grow does mean to support the Tournaments we have, not crying for the Tournaments we don't have yet.
I don't think it feels too good to host a big Tournament and all People write is "why is there no Tournament, why is there no HC5".

There were 10 S Tier Tournaments last year. You missed Redbull III, IV, V as well as DMWC and Empire Wars Duo. Total prize pool between S Tier tourneys was over $400,000.

So far this year we’ve had official announcements of 2 S Tier tournaments totaling $35,000 total prize pool.

And then people wonder why pros aren’t motivated to grind the game anymore.

We had 2 TG S-Tier Tournaments in 2021 EW Duo and Two Pools 2, so both 2vs2 and one of them not even being RM.
Now we have 2 A-Tier TG Tournaments (+RotC being over) and evryone knows BoA is coming.
So why not let them enjoy the TG Action?

Also if you meant Hera he said he lost motivation since a long time ago, back when we had 100k RBW5 and all, so it proly doesn't have anything to do with the current Tournaments.

Indeed there are 250K+ on other side of franchise mostly generated by aoe2 viewers, and aoe2 viewers labeled as spoiled because they are not satisfied with 24K according to his post...

It is obvious for a "pro" in any activity at life to be motivated for the money they can earn doing that activity, so dont twist what people try to say, we all know that for you MS is making a favor to anybody in AOE2 giving some money for the tournaments, but they do that for investment return, not because they are so kind. Some people get tired of reading the constant bashing to AoE4, Nili, etc, but reading the constant apologists is tiresome too.

I think their argument is that the community and viewership in the Age of Empires franchise was largely build on the backs of AoE2 viewers and players in the years leading up to the release of AoE4. This makes it feel like a slap in the face when that loyalty is rewarded with the shiny new toy with a couple busted wheels getting more support than AoE2.

What is more likely is that AoE4 was actually supporting AoE2 even before its release, as MS invested marketing dollars into the franchise to build support and hype for their pending release

Hi akku, The DW Pro league Finals S2 peaked 11663 live viewers, MembTV peaked 3000+. AoE2 still alive, don't worry about that.
