For that reason, the time of big Microsoft-money is probably over now. Maybe they will step in for AoE4, if the games unexpectedly increases in popularity again. But they won't care a lot about AoE2 ever again.

Of course I don't have insider information, so it is mainly speculation. But the timing at which MS suddenly started to sponsor was peculiar. The playerbase and viewership of AoE2 has been constantly increasing, but never at a level at which a company like Microsoft would really care. IIrc, they announced the definitive editions and AoE4 in parallel. So it is very likely that the focus was always on the new game, not on the second remake of a very old game produced by a (although very good) former modding team. And though it is a different company, it fits in that RedBull rushed out their last Wololo-Event at the practically worst possible timing due to Covid just to finish their series one month before the release of AoE4.

Feels like your mixing up things here, Redbull finishing the RBW Series just made 100% sense, since no one knew how AoE2 would look like after AoE4 release.
Looking back at it the timing was pretty good, only real other options would have been to not make RBW5 at all (which would have been responsible) or to make it like any other RBW (which would also be responsible, but way less interesting).

Of course MS focused on AoE4 since the beginning when they announced all the DE's and AoE4 together, but so what?
AoE2 DE Tournaments and Community clearly proved to be way more then just a promotion for AoE4, otherwise we would have seen huge promotion for AoE4 on RBW5 instead of overlapping it with the stress test.

Exactly. RedBull was finishing up because they were concerned about AoE4. That makes totally sense. They are interested in promoting questionable drinks, not questionable video games. If AoE4 had been a success, Red Bull would have announced a Red Bull Wololololo - Series already (the 4 "lo's" standing for AoE4). As things are now, they probably stop investing in the series completely or start a new AoE2 - tournament. But RedBull sponsoring tournaments does not mean that Microsoft will invest in sponsoring as well.

afaik for all RBW events, MS put up the prizepool while RB provided the production value (which was still a ton of money).

Well for an in person event they did RBW5 just in time, because covid situation just got worse and worse afterwards.

So either way they picked a good time to finish up the series, because planning an event like that in winter sounds very risky considering how the pandemic is going over here.

One thing I can admit is that my feeling is that this thread in particular seems to attract some shady gestalts with absurd comments whose probably smallest problem in life is that AoE4 has been released.

I think it depends what that "positive" news is positioned in response to: whether it is actual negative news about the game or is just people expressing their displeasure at its many shortcomings as a product. If the first one then it is trying to make the community of people who care about the game feel better, if the second its empty sunshine pumping built around a false definition of negativity like we always saw here from Microsoft shills and popular streamer hanger-ons whenever there was a lot of backlash against one of DE's major problems.

Hera is so deep into aoe4 that he lost the touch with reality. He went down the rabbit hole, praised aoe4 too prematurely and concluded he achieved everything in aoe2 so he is done with it. He has no where to go back to.

I'm far from being an English language expert but I vividly remember the advice my Spanish teacher gave me when I wrote stuff like you did (I tend to do the same xD). She basically told me that regardless of how much of an expert you are on a certain language, a better and more intelligent communication tends to be achieved by using shorter AND clearer sentences. Specially so if your goal is to transmit a message to others rather than showing off. Following the short sentences rule is always a good start.
Although I can see how writing in a overly convoluted way is also a matter of taste. As I said I'm "guilty" of this too, to each their own.

Where do we draw the line when it comes to a person being a shill? On the other side of things, how do we know if something is valid criticism or just hate? To know this you'd need to see the inner workings of the person, to see their intentions. Normally we'd state we can't see that stuff so we just guess.

To me if the only intention of a person is to see the game or human fail, then what he shares isn't criticism. He just wants to attack it regardless of everything else. There's just one goal, to feed the inner hate mechanisms. When you only get off seeing something doing badly it constitutes an unhealthy or twisted relation with the topic/person, in this case aoe4. In other instances it can be applied to DE, to a particular streamer or player, or to anything really. Feeling betrayed by streamers, being happy because they're doing badly... please give me a break . Have in mind that when you feel betrayed it is because you feel this person is doing morally reprehensible things.

This feeding off negative **** could be what gives Aoezone its reputation of being a negative cesspool. Even if it's only a few doing it. Although there's also a big part of this coming from the inability of some to deal with criticism, as I've already stated many times in the past. It's easier to deal with criticism directed at you when you present it as hate.

So I can also see the other perspective in which many of us are Microsoft shills and streamer simps stopping valid criticism and therefore helping the evil ways. The magic of different perspectives ^^
If we all talked in person instead of in writing we'd probably understand each other better and arrive at more common points. Writing comes off as aggressive way too often.

I don't think there are 100s of trolls here. Though I certainly do feel you are the one who is unable to understand or accept the viewpoint of others around here.
