All good! Its definitely one of our most hypocritical laws considering most interactions with police, friendly or not have almost always involved pottymouth police. Fun fact, despite being 3% of the population, Aboriginals make up over 30% of swearing offences brought to court, so there's the racist aspect of it too.

Very true. I was not a very big fan of these wealthy sponsors (the SY sponsors and TyRanT_nv dubai kind of guys 11), I loathed their opacity and unexistant relation with our community back in the days

, but I have to admit, if these rich people weren't there in the late 00's to mid 10's, AoE2 as a competitive game would be DED

So I'm very grateful for what they've done in a way, the tournaments they have sponsored were cool in their own way, I especially long for the big TGs tournaments.
I have a confession to make, The Medieval Wars 2013 is still in my personal top 3 favourite AoE2 tourneys, the variety of maps, the 4v4 settings, players from all countries with a mix of old-school (DauT, Chris generation), with the then new-school (people like Viper, Yo and around their age), iconic old clans like Chinese Kung-Fu, Immortals, BuzZ etc. it was just such a great show.

Robo has some real life issues, it is like the 5th time he has called me an ***** and stuff like that, you know insults and violence are the least resources when you are lacking of the words, but given the hard job he has done for the community he can keep acting like that with not even a warning or deleting/editing comment like some of us have experimented before.

Aoe3 is a ded game in terms of audience, he knows perfectly fine cause when he was working with zeroempires the ecl got less than 150 viewers for any aoe3 event, in other words hosting anything about aoe3 for any company trying to get viewers is just a big waste of money and human resources.

Aoe4 is just a new game, they can't have rich people sponsoring tournaments yet, ECL the project he was at was sponsored by some rich german guy, current kotd4 is sponsored by an old aoc player i remember nevergone(pinztec) since the old forums of aoegroup, in fact most of the aoe2 events have been sponsored by rich people who are/used to be a big fans of the game,

Anyway so far ECG is a new non commercial sponsor, cause last time i checked their twitter account had like 30 followers and they are not even advertising/selling anything so basically they are doing it for free, yeah for sure and i am a conspiracy idiotic.

Maybe you should stop always making stupid baseless claims with 1000% percent conspiracy making you seem like Deathcounter's alt.

Also NWC LAN which was probably their only aoe3 event got way more viewers than 150. Escapetc normal daily streams were always unpopular which doesn't apply just to aoe3 streams. ECL LAN had like max 6k-7k. Zak himself said ECL was very disappointing compared to NWC which peaked 1500 viewers and "multiple times more successful than ECL (resulted in over double the channel subscriptions and many times more in donations)".

Anyway I don't think EGC is trying to make profit or whatever. Them organizing aoe3 tournaments was just make tournaments for community. EGC doesn't have regular streams or self cast meaning there is not much to expand. when EGC appeared i thought EGC is Aussie Drongo's alt twitch/brand/promotion (he is always casting there EGC events).

Point is someone is pumping money in ECG (without expectations of gains) and a lot of players (specially GL members) were aware of all these planned aoe4 events

It appears it depends who it's directed at and how many "hahA" emotes it has, with a decent sub factor of whether the insulting party is part of the "cool kid crew." This comes in two flavors : Insults from people (pro's, semi-pro's, people in the know,) who can say inappropriate things and it's ignored or tolerated. Or, indecency towards people considered controversial for their aoe2 opinions.

I've recently seen several completely off-topic outright flames that literally reference jerking off that I've known to be reported be allowed depending on who it's directed at. Usually this is only fixed when folks start calling attention to it.

While I'd say moderation on the site is relatively good, it is nonetheless always threatened by the potential for bias. No greater evidence than "ugh aoezone," "we need to clean up aoezone," or "I thought better of the aoe2 community," trope by certain streamers in response to well reasoned/warranted criticism at times.

An internet forum is meant for a discussion of ideas after all.

I didn't get a chance to read Robo's comment before it was deleted so can't comment on anything apart from what was quoted. Either way he's the only one that's correct in describing what EGC is:

Some of the conspiracy theories here are just incredible. And what makes it particularly hard to understand is that I'm happy to answer legit any question about EGC, our plans, our structure and our funding. So why not just like, I dunno....ask?

The 'EGC is part of Microsoft' is just such a low quality conspiracy theory too. Like it genuinely boggles my mind that with all the information out there and publicised (especially regarding GENESIS) that anyone could possibly believe that.

But most of all I don't get how it's possible that literally one person here seems to get the concept of a startup. The idea of attempting to make a short-term loss with the aspiration of long-term gains. Now people are obviously entitled to think that EGC is a poor investment, but I mean it's pretty transparent that that's what it is. And that's generally supposed to be a great thing within a gaming community. Top level competition is pretty capped when no one believes there's a commercial opportunity, and has a very high ceiling when they do (think RedBull).

Anyway if you're a fan of AOE4 it doesn't really matter whether you think it's a good idea or not. Just enjoy the events and the fact someone is willing to take a gamble on funding events before knowing how succesful the game will be. It's easy to put your money where your mouth is when you know 50,000 people will watch live, it's hard when you don't have a clue.

And if you're only around for AOE2 and want nothing to do with AOE4, that's obviously fine. But it's frustrating to see some of the attitudes and way that this is expressed. I've taken every effort to not cannibalise AOE2 viewership even when hurting my own numbers (ask Memb if you like). So to read some of the attitudes to our events it's really disappointing.

Oh and:

Why preface a direct criticism of the hosts with "I don't want to criticise the hosts"? You quite verifiably did want to. And I mean, that's completely fine. Forums exist in part to express criticism of things you don't like. So just own it man, no need to pretend a direct criticism isn't just that.

I didn't go back to check who wrote that quote, but I think there's a chance he's referring to hosts here as in "the people hosting the stream", so probably the casters. Not necessarily the people actually organizing the event.

Anyway I'm glad you cleared this up for everyone and wish you lots of success!

I myself am still on the fence about AoE 4...
I really want to like the game (I actually really like the way it looks as opposed to some here) but there is still sooo...much....stuff...missing...
And a lot of it won't come before the Summer of 2022 probably...

The funding likely splits these figures. Sure I'll be glad to do that over the next week some time. Of course there are so many variables that affect what that funding level looks like:

How successful and popular the game is after initial hype.
How successful and popular our events are.
Our ongoing ability to attract sponsors.
Ability to know the plans of other stakeholders (more foresight=more funding).

AOE2 is always gonna be bae because childhood, and AOE4 is the kind of cartoony/appeal to wide audience that honestly I can't stomach anymore.

Ok so for me personally and maybe some others share this dream.

I HAVE FOR EVER WANTED TO JOIN RTS PLAYERS from sc2 and wc3 etc etc AND I WANTED THEM TO PLAY MY FAVOURITE AOE2. Now it seems they are playing something very close to aoe2 and I love it.

About genesis:
All respect for t90 and co. from aoe2 but i really think it was refreshing to hear the other casters on genesis, for genesis in particular they seemed more knowledgable and better prepared than the casters of aoe2.

About aoe4:
The good:
I think the sounds are amazing and its very new and crisp i love the meta shifting back and forth and TheVipers almost bi-weekly civ tier list changing. I love the whole talk it has started about aoe2 and aoe4. And to be honest, considering aoe3 and aoe2 deluxe etc, I think its a lovely stab at the next generation.

The graphics and sounds are pretty amazing and i love the chances they have made to maps, advancing in age, etc.

The bad:
it feels very hard to kill people who wants to survive hehehe maybe its just me lol. but thanks to the missing score and lack of confidence, some games are just funny i have no idea how much damage i have done - and cannot to push and check - so after 10 more mins of building up armies i realise he is down to a few villies and a tc in the corner.

I disagree with the landmarks being repairable after being "destroyed" its just akward. Also disagree with foundations of destroyed stuff hanging around or at least its too much right now.

Currently in the civ tier list and discussion it takes a brave soul to play holy roman empire or chinese or something other the mongols, french, rus and english as far aa i can tell. I hope there is a "spot" for those civilization in terms of balance somewhere. I also think that french being so strongly early with boom bonusses makes it incredibly hard to deal with them properly if they are switching gears, then im too bad of a players to scout and figure out what their game plan is. But im still learning and it could just be me.



Lastly:
I think the "dead" beginning of a game due to various laming rules etc is kind of good they got rid of it.
I really enjoy having a faster start to do stuff myself, and not having those 10 min of perfect macro needed to asses build correctly helps me a lot to understand what i need to improve each game. In old aoe2 there would be so much variance in boar luring scouting resources etc in the beginning that it was harder to focus on an actual plan. But im rather beginner now and dont really have that much time to play and improve. It fells way nicer to play aoe4 for a couple hrs than aoe2. On the other hand aoe2 is more spammable for a whole day session i think,


Im very concerned balance wise about blind contering builds & unscoutable all-ins as for example these are things that ruin sc2 for me completely and what i love about aoe2 is that the slower pace allows people to find a way to deal with the information they are getting from the battlefield.

Sorry for the post and read - just wanted to share as it has been on my mind as well since aoe4 came out.

I was quite opposed to AoE4 initially, but after watching the genesis tournament and some streams before that I submitted, and tried out the game myself with the three months game pass.
I had a bit of fun initially and went through several phases with this game so far, but my main issue is just the user interaction. I tried to like it, but even though I get frequently frustrated with my performance in AoE2 it just feels so much smoother to play. So I think I will hold out for AoE4 until the following two features get included:

Selection of either only military or only economy units (alt/ctrl+drag in aoe2)
selection/deselection of an individual unit from a selection. Using prelates, tax officials etc is just so annoying if you cannot select individuals...

Alternatively, if they don't select the latter they have to at least include the following:
Hotkeys for individual buildings
Free hotkey customizability, meaning: Alt key, shift key and mouse keys can be bound. Combination hotkeys can be setup with other keys than ctrl. Tripple combination hotkeys (ctrl+shift+1) can be used.

It doens't matter how much I get frustrated with AoE2, after one or two games of AoE4 i just want to go back to that smooth as butter experience, where I fail because I suck and not because I cant choose what to select.
