Yeah, I agree. I honestly not even sure what is wrong with it, but yesterday gave another try, watched 2 games hera played against GiveUAnxiety and people in chat were like "wow, what a game" and stuff and I was watching and it felt like nothing is happening, both games were like 50min+. in both games there were points like sitting with armies 20min doing basically nothing.

And I don't want to sound like that game is garbage and stuff, Idk, I still feel like it's way more fun to play it than watching. Also still can't predict anything how fight will go, those siege repairements change things by tons, can't see where mangonel is shooting except which direction they are rotated towards. Also maybe that in aoe2 game pace is just faster. Like there are games which go to 50min, but in aoe2 50min games actually are 30min of real time and there is significantly less standing with army at one spot doing nothing.

yea you are right. A new game with 8 assymetric civs with very varied gameplay per civ with their own unique units/techs and playstyle in 15+ different maps definitely is very easy to understand. Kappa .

Celebrating the lack of symmetry in the game is not something I would be proud of.

Well it was quite bad balance compared to now, but even back then if we not counting top players and stuff, it was not that terrible in many cases. I think nowadays common method is to make many patch notes and do balance updates, I think around 2000 no one was doing that, so as without patching much it had quite a good balance, else that game would be dead I guess. I mean you have a point there, but at same time it wasn't that broken for most people. Springalds are probably at worse place in aoe4 anyways, so there always something unbalanced in any game, doesnt mean game sucks just cause of that.

As for "aoe4 players lost in kotd". Well I don't want to be too negative, players play whatever they want after all, but I think it was exact 1 day prior, where I seen Hera's 2 games against GUA and he was saying something like "maybe i'm not best, but I have will to grind, played 20 games today". I mean again, is his choice, but playing 20 games of aoe4 one day before you have decider in kotd... Maybe he thought he will easily win or he doesn't care much, I don't know. Either way Hera is quite fun to watch, but he kind of deserved to drop out in my opinion. At least I find it strange playing whole day aoe4 one day before decider, not sure how much that impacted it, but it just feels wrong.

Well for everyone is different, although in ladder he often do some random stuff. But what I think I like most from him, that he whole early game reading chat and answering questions and stuff, so is half his gameplay, more of a enternainment how he speaks for me

Would you be able to spare 300 characters to summarise the key events? I gathered Vipers opponent made a well executed play, and it had something to do with relics?

Also, as a general comment on the theme of the thread, I was there when the zone was shut down, and let me tell you, that really did feel like the end. This is nothing.

I find it interesting that a lot of the pro players are becoming bored with the game or find it has run out of depth...

MBL could probably actually be a successful FIFA streamer unless there is very serious competition in his style of mild troll/rage. I suppose considering the popularity of football in Europe there probably is that competition.

I don't see why full-time gamers can't play and stream 2 games at a high level when I can handle 2 jobs at one time.

I mean time shouldn't be an issue for them no?

No. Some big streamers (like Lirik) were streaming the game. Despite all that, aoe4 is doing better viewership wise than aoe2 by quite a bit.

It would be just terrible if AoE4 doesnt have better viewers numbers than AoE2, you have the biggest streamers of AoE2 playing AoE4, have all those small communities of the SC2 retired semi pros, have Grubby playing it against the AI with 5k viewers always, have Bonjwa with 4k either, but with all of that the number of players is declining faster than I thought, if it had at least in Steam 45k -50k players average you could say: well, we have a succesful game into our RTS niche, but it is struggling even to achieve 30k in the weekend peak, I think the future of the game is having good prize tournaments next year, having its own community driven more from the SC2 and WC3 retired players than Age2 top players, and after that who knows if MS will be interested in the game anymore.

I think it was because of streamers who plays game to game, you know kind of people who gets free access to all games and plays as a promotion. One of the guys i watch on youtube, played AOE4 for a week and never looked back. He naturally got 300K vieweres since he has 1m subs but when hype is dead, he got 10Ks, and end of story.

More than bots, we can credit to huge marketing budget.

Hate is because they are kinda abandoning aoe2. See mbl's recent tweet. It looks like they only want to come to aoe2 if there is a tournament. If no one is playing on ladder then viewership drops, no one will host/sponsor tournament. Also, a few top players commenting they will focus aoe4 completely after kotd4 doesn't sit well with many viewers since they are literally abandoning aoe2

Isn’t it apparent that Hera is pretty demotivated to play aoe2? Some players are definitely in this position. If they enjoy aoe4 (or even say WoW/CSGO) more, what can you do? Are they still obligated to do something they don’t like doing, particularly just for a bunch ungrateful and hateful people? Or, would an entitled, toxic community do anything to help attract them back to aoe2? I like the saying that the negativity and accompanying toxicity does more damage to the community other than anything else.

But I guess at this point here becomes nowhere but a necessary outlet of ranting for grumpy old farts rather than sane discussion. It’s wise to keep all the hates, entitlement and conspiracy here, coz the pros and mainstream community won’t give a damn anyway. They are mostly on discord
