Introduction
- Cup of the Alps (CotA) is a RM 1v1 tournament for AoC players from the alps. The champion will be decided through a single elimination bracket, it takes place from 15th February to 27th March, the maximum number of participants is 64. You find all information needed below.
Main Menu: CotA General Discussion | CotA Brackets | CotA Scheduling | CotA Recorded Games
Who can participate?
- The concept of alp states used for CotA is derived by the numbers of this Wikipedia article (German).
The following states are considered alp states in the narrow sense. Players from these countries can participate with no further conditions:
Austria, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia, Switzerland
The following states are considered alp states in a broader sense. Players from these countries need to document (not publicly, for the admins) a strong relation to the alps (work, domicile, growing up, regular/advanced hobbies).
Germany, France, Italy
Sign-up
- Because of the restrictions above, you need to include your IP in the sign-up. That's why there is no public sign-up thread. Send a PM to pumukel AND RacerFXX in order to sign up. Give the following information:
- Country and nickname you want to participate with (should be your best known name):
- Voobly account you want to participate with:
- Further Voobly accounts that are relevant for seeding (will not be made public):
- Steam accounts that are relevant for seeding (if any):
- IP address (https://www.whatismyip.com/):
- Honest rating self-estimation of Voobly RM 1v1 (full random):
(If you are from France, Germany, or Italy, additional information will be asked for.)
Brackets
- The bracket can be found here: http://challonge.com/cupofthealps
The players' starting positions will be set by seeding. The seeding depends on the self-estimation of the players (see sign-up), but this will be double-checked by the administration of course.

Tournament Rules
- The general rules concern the behaviour of the participants outside the battlefield. This is an important part for a successful tourney. The rules are the ones of WSVG World Championship 2015, adjusted for CotA:
§1
All players must respect the Tournament schedule and times for each round. There will be NO exceptions or delays granted to ANY player. No excuse will be accepted for failing to play in the specified time. If the admin staff determine that a player is trying to avoid scheduling and playing the tournament games, the player may be warned, receive an admin loss for the game or match or be disqualified from CotA.
§2
If both players cannot come to an agreement in scheduling their match, tournament staff will analyze the situation, schedule, and time zones, in order to add a viable Admin Time that suits both Players, to the best of our ability.
§3
Every player must respect their opponent. Bad behavior (determined by staff) will result in a warning and may lead to an immediate disqualification. This tournament values not only great skills, but also sportsmanship and fairness. Any insult, racism or flaming will not be tolerated. Laming and mind games in game are allowed.
§4
All players have agreed to the No Smurfing rule. Each player must submit all relevant usernames for admins discussion. Smurfing and account sharing is not allowed. Any discovery of the mentioned will result in a disqualification.
§5
Players are allowed to stream their own games only if their opponents agree.
§6
All games are by default to be played in the Voobly Tournament Lobby using the VCOM Ladder. Most important, all games of a match must be publicly downloadable from Voobly.
§7
Matches of Round of 64 - Round 16 must be posted immediately after the match by the winner (the loser can do it if he offers it). Matches of the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, the Bronze Final and the Final must be sent immediately after the match to [email protected] (alternatively, the game links can be sent by PM to any admin). Please rename the files!
§8
Matches can be scheduled in the CotA Scheduling forum, but other ways are fine aswell. Most important, confirmed times have to be announced publicly in the scheduling forum (this is important for admins, specators and streamers). If there is no agreement about the playing time by Thursday 23.59 GMT, the staff might start interfering in order to get the games scheduled and completed in time.
§9
In case of disconnections, the game must be saved and restored. All of the .mgz recorded game files (multiple parts of the game before/after drop) must be provided when posting the recorded games. If restoring is not possible, the recorded game should be provided, along with any additional information to the admins. Subsequently, facts will be analyzed and a final decision made.
§10
Once two players have arranged and confirmed a time to play, the maximum waiting time is 30 minutes. If one of the players fails to arrive in time, the waiting player must take a screenshot showing http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_UTC.aspx (so the current time is clearly visible) with the game room, and send the screenshot to an admin. Do not try to edit time arrangement posts in an attempt to get free wins, because our forum registers the exact date and hour of each edited post. Such actions are considered cheating, and the offender will be punished.
§11
If a game is not recorded, it must be replayed regardless of result and evidence of it.
§12
By signing up for the tournament you agree to have all your games streamed and casted by any streamers and co-casters through using the Spectator Mode on Voobly, brought by the Userpatch 1.4 RC version. The streams will always have a delay to avoid cheating. There is no assurance of your games being streamed, but the possibility is there at all times. Spectating is allowed for anyone as long as both players agree.
§13
New rules can be added and current rules can be changed (including gaming rules). However, Admins MUST inform the Players about such changes.
