If this ***** thinks he is some kind of heroic philanthropist by pointing out the flaws in the system, he is wrong. In that case, you would do it one game, send the game recording to the devs along with details on how he hacked the system and then deactive his cheats immediately.

Hacking the game by exploiting an imperfection is not noble in any way, it simply makes you a filthy cheater who ruins the game for everyone. This person needs to be made an outcast from every part of the community.

They probably don't really care tbh. I would venture it's more like a hobby the same way it is for folks in diablo to create bots. It's not really about the botting, but the process of being able to.

This will sound very unpopular but I would disable family sharing in aoe2. Forcing cheaters to actually buy the game again (aka losing money) if they want to continue being douche bags sounds like a reasonable solution to me.

Oh, and by doing this we also get rid of the clowns smurfing with 5 accounts ruining team games all day.

At the same time it's good for the devs because they'd be making money from people buying the game multiple times. Everyone wins.

The guy has now GL.Hera nick, he is doing it just to annoy people, he has changed his vpn like 5 times already, trust me if he can afford that then buying more copies ain't a problem for him.

How about instead of disabling family sharing, a ban for ANYBODY on family sharing = a ban for the whole family? In the unlikely event the cheater actually has other family members sharing their library, the shame and frustration from family members would probably serve as a far better cheating deterrent than the prospect of having to buy the game again.

I feel asking for family sharing to be turned off is (like timeouting people who Alt+F4 for example) only a short-term solution to the underlying problem. We should rather ask the devs to fix the multiplayer code in a way it's less exploitable (they said before release they wrote the multiplayer code from scratch by the way) AND should provide not only the game as a service but actually a service to the community and moderate their gaming platform, meaning banning cheaters faster so they don't get a problem and claim the ladder to this extent.

I sort of agree, that it would slightly inconvenience some, but family sharing does not allow both copies to be played simultaneously anyway, if a parent wants to grant access to their account, they can share the account/password.

I think the game improved quite a lot since release. If anything, it was unplayable then. I'm not a fan of the pace of development either or giving devs more money, just using the extra cost to discourage smurfing / cheating.

DE doesn't use game ban. They issue ban inside the game which is not part of Steam system.

I remember how all these akward people (hackers,abusers,cheaters) crawled into the warcraft 3 ladder back then. Step by step they burned out the trust and fun of the community. Step by step people turned and left wc3 forever. Ladder was killed. Community was gone. Other games replaced the hole.
Be careful and never underestimated the selfishness of human beings. If people can go full ******, they will go full ******.
Would be sad if the same happens for this game.

So far this is like the third or fourth big incident with cheaters since release, the biggest one added with the x256 tec cheat, we are still ignoring if there is some kind of anti-cheat system.

VAC bans is a valve thing only for their games, the steam guidelines establish that the developers of the games are responsible for banning cheating behaviors up to the point to deny the access for the game to that account, so far there aren't mac bans, meaning that one banned cheater can comeback with another account, in case they remove the access to the game they wouldn't be able to share the game anymore, but still they can just buy another copy of the game, while the immediate actions are banning cheaters on sight, the only efficient control method is implementing a good anti cheat system.

There always are/will be hackers. Seeing anything depends on the frequency but also on who it's happening to, most people will just quit the game. Few take screenshots, post the game upload and head to aoe2 reddit or aoezone.

Isn't the real problem NOT being able to dictate who you can play? Seems like booting undesirable opponents is a much more efficient way of filtering out shithead cheaters. We knew that 20 years ago.
