Can everyone reach 2k?

I feel like i n stuck inbetween 1k and 1.2k even i have almost 2k hours ingame in 1800 ranked games. Is it possible for everyone to reach 2k or are some players limited in their skill and talent?

No, because the average elo has to be 1000, and if it was possible for everyone to reach 2k (and they did) the average elo would magically become 2000+, absurd.
So there are people (such as you) who cannot no matter what get 2k.

I am pretty sure, while not every single player can be 2k at once, 90% of all individual players would be able to reach 2k if it was their final lifegoal.

Just imagine taking full time training sessions from pro players for several years - there is no way you wouldn't be able to reach 2k somehow.

That being said I am nowhere near 2k. But spending much time on aoe might be needed to become a good player, but is certainly not sufficient.

If you are asking if everyone can reach 2k skill, the question doesnt make much sense, since that is not a fixed measure. "2k skill" varies over time.

No not everyone has the natural talent to get there with only a moderate amount of grinding or the tolerance for boredom to get there with the extreme grinding that is otherwise needed.

A huge issue I see on why a lot don’t ever get there is they don’t really believe in themselves. And that they often aren’t flexible enough.

If you really want to hit 2k you have to sink a lot of time into it. But you also have to follow build orders very strictly until they become ingrained into you and you don't even think about it anymore you just execute them. Furthermore every civ has a slight variance of those build orders based on their civ bonuses which you also have to memorize. And you have to be fast and efficient with your build orders and decisions making.

For some this comes naturally but for others it takes a lot of effort. For you

@Please_dont_choose_goths!, it sounds like you need a lot of effort. You have to play with a ton of notes, and forget about feeling bad for losses. Losses don't matter anymore, they're simply educational tools.​

If you really want to get good, you have to change your mindset. You're no longer playing for fun, you're playing for logic and results. Which is why I never endeavored down that road...I don't want to stop having fun. Work is painful enough, I won't want gaming to become that way too 111

I think people get stuck on a given elo because there's a difference in playing more and playing to improve. You can grind 10k games without analyzing your gameplay and seeing where you made mistakes or have bad habits. If you don't identify those and try to change them I think you'll never get past certain tresholds. This is also fine of course. I'm around 1400 myself, and I'm not active enough as well to try and really improve my gameplay as I like it where it is as of now.

Point is, almost nobody have the time or interest for that, which is completely legit. This is just a game, people should focus their effort for more productive things like a job or studies.

Yes, I do. If you study and train to become the nearest to 100% efficient like you would to become a get a degree, a successful job etc.

If you treat this just like a game, only watching the basic guides and playing casually everyday, then yeah you are not likely at all to reach 2k+. And it's fair to assume 99.4% of the players are like this or "worse".

I'm not talking about becoming a top player and winning tournaments, though. There, talent certainly matters.

Just play as a smurf account for a pro player in team games. You will reach 2k on the TG ladder in no time. And the pro player might hit 5k by exploiting the system as well.

If you are 1k elo and can't reach over that, you need to work on your basics and stop repeating same mistakes over and over again. Find what you are doing wrong and work on that. A small improvement each day will make you a 2k player in a year, two or three.

The mistake people do when they don't improve (in all areas, not only aoe2) is that they autopilot, do the same thing all the time and don't really try to correct their mistakes. If you ignore your mistakes, then yes, you won't improve much even if you play 10k games.

I recommend you to watch replay of every game, even if it is a game you already (thought) you knew why you lost. And try to point your finger at one or two moments where you lost/won the game.

Reaching 2k needs a certain set of skills and also some intelligence. I don't think everyone can do it, regardless of how much effort they put into it.
It's like getting a PhD on most fields.

So these are some numbers I got out of my ass:
Can 100% of the population do it? No way.
90%? I don't think so
80%? Doubtful
70%? Maybe
60%? Probably
50%? Absolutely

I had seeing the less talented players trying mbl amount of playing and after some years reach 2k or even more but I can think of even less talented players so probably around 80% of player base can. Even more because some may had tried hard but with a terrible method. Imo Is way harder going to 2.2k from 2k than from 0 to 2k and so on. Also there is always inflation after some time so 2k is a bit random goal.

I'm very surprised by the amount of people saying "everyone" or "most people" can (like the post above). This is not true at all. Gaming requires talent. So many people here saying if everyone has the time to grind like the pros, they can reach 2k, or higher. Very delusional.. You DO need magical talent to get to a certain level. Maybe 2k needs "less" talent but 2.4? you are literally putting yourself in the top 50 players in the world in a game with very high skill ceiling. Even 2k, trust me, most people CAN'T make it because most people are not "talented enough". It's cruel to say, but it is true. But hey, do you have to be that talented to enjoy the game? you can still enjoy a game of basketball or playing guitar as a hobby even without talent. Not being talented enough to have the potential to become top 2% of everyone who plays this game is almost "normal".

If people practice basketball every day, with the right method and all the support, can most of them make the NBA? or any other pro scene? (NBL, Euro league etc) or even one of the best players in a social league in your town/university/college? or.. the starting V of your school team?
What about music? if everyone practices with the right method, with the right teachers, can most people become a once in a generation musician like Charlie Parker, Jacob Collier or Esperanza Spalding? or being able to make a living out of just giging?

The higher level you get, the more you will get what I'm saying. So many people think too highly of themselves, thinking - "I have the knowledge and intelligence. The only reason I'm not getting to that level is because I don't have the time to practice" is arrogant. It's also very ignorant and disrespectful to the top level players. On top of putting in many hours into practising, they are VERY talented. That's why when they play new RTS, or even MOBA games, they do very well. Viper doing very well in almost every game he plays (GM on SC2, AOE2 legend, AOE4 champ), Grubby with WC3, SC2, and AOE4, Marinelord getting 2.2k after about only a year and now one of the best in AOE4, list goes on. These players are pro players I know, but the story is similar to even the "semi-pros" or the casual players at top level (2k+). Some people at this level also are not talented enough to reach that pro level.

It's not just pushing buttons fast and perfecting it. It's about planning, mind-gaming, decision making, multitasking, attitude, learning method etc etc. Most of these, to get to 2k+ (probably best to say top xx%, as we need to consider ELO inflation), requires more than just practice.

You may get back to me saying "We aren't talking about reaching the pro level, we are talking about 2k". Yes I know. The amount of people with the potential of reaching 2k certainly is higher than pro level, but still, MANY and MOST people won't be able to as they are not talented enough. I'm afraid this sounds very harsh, but don't think there's an easier and nicer way to put it

But so what if I'm not talented enough to be one of the best players in the world? or the top 500 player in the world? As long as I enjoy playing, that's all that matters (given that this isn't what you live off!)
