Think about what 1v1 and TGs have in common.

The same civs.
The same units.
The same buildings.

And most importantly...

The same HOTKEYS.

If you're good at one, you're probably good at the other, because those fundamental skills that you've developed with the mouse and keyboard and so many basic build orders and strategies are the same regardless of how many other people are playing and what civ you're using.

The other thing that can make you seem better or worse than you really are in TGs is that your performance doesn't just depend on your choice of opponents, but also your choice of allies.

For example, slam's TG rating is always 19xx and has never been higher than 2095, but that's because he teams up with whoever, and plays all kinds of games. If his allies were always Viper, RiuT and BacT then his TG rating would be 21xx if not 22xx.

Using slam as an example again, if you look at his civ choices today as a 1v1 player, from the last 160 games he played 87 of them have been Huns and 147 of them on Arabia. The same stats for his last 160 TGs show a much more variety across all the different civs. This gives you a more well rounded experience of the game. More black Forest and Nomad as well. All these things are developing a more well rounded set of AOC skills.

If Vodka is used to playing a lot of team games then that's really going to benefit his 1v1 play.

Also, as Ra (I think it was Ra) recently explained to me on another thread, anyone rated 21xx can beat ANYONE on their day. Maybe not in a BO7 or BO9, but they can certainly take the occasional game from anyone.
