Maps​

The official selection of maps used for the event. The map pack can be acquired by subscribing to the map mod using this link or by searching for “Battle of Africa 3” in the in-game mod workshop.
Feedback or bug reports are invaluable to us, and we aim to improve and correct any potential errors before the event begins, has anything been discovered. Provide your feedback on the official Discord server in the appropriate channel.

A little bit of feedback.
Dry Socotra and Colosseum seem quite similar in style to me. Dry Socotra a bit more wallable though. I myself am not the biggest fan of a map that almost always won't get into lategame. I also feel like there are just no real strategy options on Colosseum.
I know that the theme of BoA is very aggressive teamgames but I feel the other maps also provide that but also offer some kind of different approaches.


Other than that, no real complains

Dry Socotra and Colosseum have, historically, played very differently to each other. Colosseum is basically a very pure test of the cavalry-archer meta, and having a map like that seems fine. (Dry) Socotra is much more wallable and close together, so has often seen some very clowny plays. I don't think they're particularly similar in style at all.

Also the civ draft can often force teams to adapt away from the most obvious meta on certain maps, especially in the latter stages of the tournament, which will have a bigger impact on a map like Dry Socotra.

You're right with Dry Socotra. Looked up one game from the last BoA.
I guess I don't like Colosseum that much ^^

It’s not strategically interesting, but isn’t intended to be. It’s a pure mechanics map which has its place. Having 1 map in that style is good, more would be really boring.
The crucial thing is that every map has a clear identity and a good reason to pick it - there is no value in having 2 of the same map. The only thing really missing is a water map to cover all the different core styles but Africa is just one large desert right?

they could have a madagascar map where all the players start on madagascar and have to travel to the mainland to expand

for me the highlight of BOA1 was the amazing and funny donut games, which the water played a key part in

who doesn't love seeing longboats vs battle eles?

I think I personally would add a bit more gold on Donut, the situation there looks similar to Colosseum ( old) . U lose access to 1 chunk and ur fook pretty much

I'm glad they removed it. Ships just aren't balanced to fight vs land units, they're just too strong. We saw it in MSC, where they got heavily nerfed, but still were very strong.

On the MSC maps where the mobility isnt an issue i 100% agree, but when the unit can only move one dimensionally in a predetermined route there are more drawbacks

It's not like you can maneuver around the ships though, especially with a few walls, towers or castles. Only advantage is that siege can kinda counter the ships which have to be bunched up, but still not something I'd like to watch.

There is a real world Madagascar which is super balanced

this socotra only changed the name, been like this the three editions and it didn´t happen what you mention

100% agree, that map was a million times better back then. Keep in mind one can still just cut around the ships in worst case. Also there were some very nice badabooms.

Quick look across these maps bring back so many great memories from Boa1+2. Mega hyped for the third edition! (Boa1 probably the best tournament ever for me in terms of enjoyment)
