if you have time it would be really fun to hear some team communication, maybe you could release some shorts from it after a team is eliminated or after the finals. Like how a team talks when the game is intense and so on

There is a lot of potential as a matter of fact. Would love to do a studio show afterwards with players pov and audio of a game winning onager shot, player feedback upon hearing pre game strategy talk that didn’t work out. “Drive to survive”-style storytelling

Imagine if mYI team only had 3 players with Daniel being the 3rd player, and they were not allowed to play unless Daniel switched on cam, and imagine them getting an AL because of that.

In that case, I assume most people (who care for seeing aoe gameplay) would then be criticising the AL decision rather than Daniel's decision.

I would guess he then would give the Admins a reason as to why he doesn't want to activate the Facecam.

I think folks vastly underestimate the amount of **** that is talked during these games.

Doubt players would want it televised.

Or maybe it is because he gave a reason for not wanting to use a cam? But as an admin you can't accept "no I won't follow this rule, I don't say why". It makes the cam optional for everyone from that point on.

Yeah, people just being completely dumb stating such nonsense. Jordan even came to winner's interview and was obviously sick. This situation with Dani was more like "well if you don't help us to help you, we can't do much".

I see the idea of listening in in people's team talks has come up again.

Though I'm not an tournament organiser, or admin, and thus do not really have any say in it, I'm heavily opposed to listening of the teams, for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, privacy reasons, I think in game communication isn't really a thing which should just be listened in by the tournament organisers if the players do not want to. I wouldn't want it, but letting the possibility to play in such a tournament slip for such a reason isn't something most people would want. One could argue that facecams fall in a similar category. And we can already see some of the problems that brings up. Sharing conversation from people goes a step further, and one too far in my opinion.

A second reason is the unfair disadvantage it gives teams who communicate in English. Aside from being an almost completely mechanic when spying on Suomi, WWP or one of the Spanish speaking teams, it pretty much forces the English-speaking teams to remain silent about their strategies. Since the games are live, and their opponents may be watching, and now apparantly can listen to their strategy discussions as well? Decisionmaking is a very important part of the game, and discovering hints as to what strategies certain teams prepared is a large advantage.

Fair enough, didn’t think of that. I might have misunderstood but I thought the original idea was to broadcast some ingame sound this tournament. Memb did it in a break between games during the first matchup, but maybe they realizes it could spoil strategies.

I'm watching for the games, so as far as it concerns me i don't need any cams or audio.

Tbh i found the cams to be a bit annoying as they take up a lot of space. It's cool for 1v1 but TGs already have so much going on both in game and on the screen that i pretty much never pay attention to the cams.

Audio i think isn't necessary, both live streamed or recorded for post game bits. The number of English speaking teams is also very limited, so only they get played on stream then? Or get a translator for every language used and edit that in? Yeah that sounds like a lot of work for maybe one or two good clips that would come out of this because most of the talk would probably just be boring.

I get the show element of events, but at the end of the day it's still AOE so there's only so much you can do. Just like the highlights always end up being Mango shots or Crossbow splits because the grand majority of (game winning) actions/decisions just doesn't make for a highlight clip. Similar with cams, where commentators always wait for epic reactions and then rarely anything really interesting happens there. I'd imagine it would be similar for sounds.

Pretty much sums up my views on this as well.
But I have to say I very much respect Memb for trying out new things with his tournaments and pushing forward instead of just repeating the same old formular.

first i love the cams, kkep them.
second, the thing with the voices, is not for live matters. its to make a video after the tournament, where you can edit, and tanslate. check DOTA2 international videos, they are great, and they translate when chinese players talk.

Why is it that when people are concerned with competitive integrity, it is said that tournaments are to have "reasonable spectator and stream delay," but when it comes to the major tournaments that are actually hosted, they have 0 spectator delay, as per the rules, and, correct me if I'm wrong, 0 stream delay as well?

Agree, I think there shouldn’t be any S-Tier tournament (except LANs with a controlled environment) that have at least 2-3 minutes spec and/or stream delay. Imo that is something we should have as a general rule for all major tournaments (maybe enforceable through taking Microsoft money) and hopefully smaller tournaments will follow then as well

Enjoying the tournament so far, although I wish the map pool lent itself to more late post-Imp possibility. When I think back on the best and most memorable team games I've watched over the years most of them involved both teams having lots of trade and large armies hammering one another, there doesn't seem to be much of that in the event up to now.

Imo that is something we should have as a general rule for all major tournaments (maybe enforceable through taking Microsoft money) and hopefully smaller tournaments will follow then as well

This would be awful for small channels if it was a stream delay. Basically makes interaction near impossible.

Spec delay is pretty standard in most lower level tourneys.

Extremely hyped for the weekend. Will miss all the semi finals due to the wedding of a very good friend. Really torn on what I should do. Watch the semi finals and the grand final later or watch the grand final on sunday like everyone else and watch the semi finals after that if they are good?!

I think the vast majority of large events have a spectator delay. It primarily depends on the requirements of the hosts and sponsors of tournaments and whether they want to include such requirements. There's no doubt that spectator delay and stream delay are excellent tools, but sometimes other things are also prioritised, and other means of anti-cheat are utilised.
I'm currently looking into ways we can get the best of all worlds so that we'll have the same set of great features and qualities on stream, while also increasing security and anti-cheat.

Are you saying that there is an extra level of anti cheat being utilized in BoA3 since there is zero spec delay? I'd really like to hear about it if at all possible, as that's news to me. I am having a hard time guessing what that might be if so, would love some clarification. My present opinion is 0 spec delay in big money tourneys makes it much easier than it already is to gain an unfair edge, but I understand the reasoning is to sync with facecams.
