I dunno. I just re-watched the last WWP set and noticed some VERY suspicious activity.

In game 1, Lyx sends his sneak laming vil straight into the enemy eagle scout. On a map that big, how would he even know where the eagle was if he wasn't cheating in some way?

Then when he douches his opponent, his opponent drops a tower on his TC, and the tower targets the TC foundation instead of the vils. Bad game mechanics? I don't think so.... HAX

And even worse, in the final game, memb took ALL of the stone off of the map, and only gave players 20 stone each so that they can't make defensive towers. And what is Lyx doing? Making guard towers in defense. On a map with NO STONE! Where did the stone come from???? Resource hacks CONFIRMED

I expect a thorough investigation from the AoEZone judicial board and multiple threads asking about the result of that investigation.

I really enjoy the tournament so far! Beachfight so far has been my favourite map. That AI/AM game was the best game of the tournament so far.

I do have 2 points of criticism as well:

1) So far I don't really feel the player POV has been utulised well. It would be more interesiting to see someone microing instead of Dark Age Exploration. I get that you want to show a bigger picture in late game, but if we only see Dark Age POV, then I feel we don't really need it at all.
Also I feel I have heard enough that Memb prefares non team colours to team colours

2) What happened to listening to player discussions? I can not really remember getting anything of it and especially in the AI/AM series I have seen players talking a lot between games.

I think this got scrapped (rightfully so).

What I noticed is Memb asking other people to co-cast while on stream. This feels really akward, even as a viewer. They can't really say no in front of thousands of people unless you come up with an excuse and even then one might feel pressured to say yes.

That has nothing to do with the tournament, and you don’t know what I talk with survivalist so honestly sorry but that nothing to do with the boa3 event, remember is still my channel is not a big company, I change many things to make it pro but we still have the friendly/community approach.

About the POVs I will try but sadly we do not have all POVs streamed on discord for performance issues otherwise I would do that way, some of the POVs are streamed on obs ninja which I can’t capture because I would need a 3rd capture card, remember I’m using 2 PCs and basically what 2-3 guys should be controlling all on my own.

And about listening the players we decided to not use that feature.

Hopefully beachfight doesn't change much. Such a fun map. Maybe replace some goats with other sources of food. But, that may make other civs OP.

Were you hoping for a cringefest? No other explanation imo. Feels about like escape launch party cringe a few years ago. I have a ton of stuff i actually want to know, like does the Max have a job? An education? What language does AI team speak during games? Do they have kids? Girlfriend? No answer, but i get to know if they prefer loom or supremacy.

Otherwise, great tournament as always by Memb.

Great tournament so far.
Not the biggest fan of the POV tbh.

I enjoy watching the macro situation at all times so the switch to POV is annoying to me.

I don't really understand the added value? You can see how they have a very high APM but that's pretty much a given with these pro's :D

All the rest is really fun!

For the interviews. The aim has been to have light-hearted funny videos while getting to know a bit more about the players and their characters. There are no resources to make individual questions for teams or players and no interviewer. The question responses are recorded by the players themselves and then edited. As far as personal information goes players are asked about their names, age where they are from and when they started to play AoE. The rest of the questions are team-related, game related and funny/silly random questions. Further the players are warned to tell us if a question makes them uncomfortable. This is the format. It does not try to go deep into strategy and it is not personalized. As far as what we expected doing them like that? Basically what we have got as a result.

PS. Memb did not make the questions. The interviews have been a surprise for him as much for the viewers.

This exactly! Just let the players ban the civ.

Plus, there is always the tradeoff that if you give away all your sheep to Gurjara, the enemy is momentarily stronger as well. I understand the change needed for the map with tons of shorefish, since shorefish provide fast food income irrespective of sheep, but in this map if you give away sheep, you need to rely on farms and berries, the slowest sources of food, berries can be pressured and farms expire fast.
And Gurjaras is tricky in Caste Age too.

I was watching the game live, even Memb and Fire agreed that the snowball could've been somewhat avoided if Vietnamese player (Bact I think) walled properly.

We have a situation where there are more than two civs which are potentially game-defining and borderline uncounterable (require SIGNIFICANT outplaying of an opponent), depending on the maps played (Britons, Cumans and Gurjaras spring to mind). Altering the maps to limit the egregiousness of one of those (whilst still leaving them viable) is not unreasonable at all.

Great tournament so far, looking forward to the business end of it.

My only minor criticisms would be
1. Not a fan of switching to player POV
2. It feels slightly too zoomed out and so sometimes difficult to make out. I'd guess most people watch on 15.6' screen or smaller for who this could be an issue.
3. Would like to see the draft in real time for semis & final. Always enjoyed this in the first BOA, it adds to the build up IMO.


Anyway, great work so far.

i think its a very good tournament so far with great production, great work by Memb and all the other ones helping to organize, thanks a lot for your dedication!

However, i want to give some (hopefully constructive) criticism: When i compare with Boa1 and 2, the "group stage" of Boa3 is not as exciting (for me).

It's maybe just personal preference, but i probably prefer having the best eight teams fight it out in the groupstage (instead of an overload of 16 teams).

Look at Boa1: You have an epic series of Tyrant vs. Suomi already in the group stage, then also a (one-sided but with super hype beforehand) aM vs. Tyrant match already in groupstage!

Boa2: Epic sets already in group stage: Suomi vs. SY, Tyrant vs. SY, Tyrant vs Suomi

Many memorable series' (even before knockout stages start!!!). Now we have Boa3 group stage, what is essenstially a double elimination, where the big teams have some chill warmup games, waiting for the quarterfinals.

Gurjaras weren't heavily used in past rounds afaik, indicating that they were either "not figured out" as OP or they really aren't op. Changing rules and maps mid tournament is a terrible idea because it hurts preparation. It punishes those who creatively thought of new strategies like the sheep sling (I'm assuming, didn't actually see The gurjaras games). Cumans are strong, but khmer can easily compete with them as well as Franks
Britons on the other hand are always a good civ, never OP imo. Ethiopians, dravidians, Vikings, Mayans are all equal perhaps better in most situations.

You may as well add Bohemians (for the BF map / Rocky Forest or whatever), Burgundians (ditto), and Turks to that list of OP civs... The list begins to get quite long.

There is a nice variety of civs as is, once again I really think changing rules/civ bans / maps mid tournament is a disaster and frankly a bit corrupt lol

I agree in principle that altering maps/rules mid-tournament is undesirable and should generally be avoided as much as possible (obviously different with things like bugs). At the same time, I think what's more desirable is having a competition which is as open as possible and determined by skill/strategy as much as possible rather than determined by the draft (though obviously this is a relevant skill which still needs rewarding).

A large problem is most of the play-testing of these maps doesn't happen until the tournament is under way. Teams are unlikely to be forthcoming about a potentially OP strat they think they've discovered until they fear it might be used against them. Linked to this, some teams might be hiding something until the crunch stages of the tournament, so some things may not be obvious right away, but then become all too obvious.

In addition, I'd say tweaking the maps in a way which still leaves the option as viable but not so outright busted (e.g. like they've done with halving the sheep on African Springs) is not really that problematic.

with "same" 8 teams all the time how you motivate other players and we grow the community? im still very happy with many of the games, what matter for me is the quality of the games and even in some 3-0 series, some of the games were crazy, like that 1st game aM vs AI, so im very happy including as much players as possible.

Pretty strong deciders and more, problem is that many people just want see same top 4 which i agree they usually provide great series, but other teams as well, and game/community grow a little bit more, hope people and players aprecciate that, because the work to manage these 3v3 all live is brutal.

Personally, I am way more interested in these group games following teams such as TMT, Baguettes, Amigos then a continuous stream of (Suomi, GL, aM, WWP) vs (Suomi, GL, aM, WWP). Really fun how new play styles are entering the arena!

Exactly, I can´t wait for deciders, they gonna be awesome I believe. Also the last decider Pahm vs AI, Polish players kicked out dark and repard, I guess Vinch is looking for the revenge!
