Redbull Wololo is over and what a fantastic event that was. We got to experience some incredibly impressive performances from everyone in a brand new game mode - an absolutely wild and, dare I say, unexpected grand final. Fortunately for all of us, Battle of Africa 2 is just around the corner, so you won't have to wait long to get your next high-level gameplay fix. With Hera and Liereyy playing for Aftermath, TheViper playing for Team Secret and the incredible Mr_Yo playing for the new YinYang team, I think it's safe to say that we will get to experience a lot more amazing games very soon. With the expanded qualifiers, the timeframe is looking slightly different, essentially adding another week of great content to the event.

All the games are to be streamed on MembTV in the upcoming weekends throughout May and June starting 13.00 GMT.
The Grand Final will begin 14.00 GMT instead of 13.00 GMT.

Participants
The incredible teams competing for the 20.000$ prize pool has been seeded and divided into the two qualification stages. The sixteen lowest seed teams will be battling to earn a spot in the main qualification stage where they will have to face up against the eight highest seeded teams. From there, they will be divided into the Main Event and the Gold League as shown above.

Hi, doesn't this mean that if Yinyang lose 3-0 or 3-1 to Heresy and Suomi beat Secret 3-2, then Yinyang can still get out?

Group A
First one in the group (could still be either YY, Secret or even Suomi) goes directly to semifinals BUT the 2nd in this group will face PGP/RoR and should have an easy way to SF as well. The important thin in this group is not to be 4th and gg, and every team depends just on themselves. I think all combinations may be possible, but of course Secret and mainly YY start with a good advantage.

My predictions:

YY-Heresy: 2-3 Heresy manages to finish the group stage with a deserved victory, but they don't know if it is enough for them, they need to stay tunis for the other results (well, they probably know, because the admin tells them, but we as viewers won't) actually, they are out if they loose 2 games

Secret-Suomi: 3-1 Secret finally wakes up and they start playing as beasts. They actually fear Suomi the most (I think it is the team that has beat them the most). No more experiments, no more boom in desert slope or mongols in arabia, full tryhard mode. They should had banned pesians for colosseum, they lost that game even though they knew what was coming.

Group B
This one is simpler, first position will be decided in one match, which I predict 3-2 for AM and third position will be decided in another, which I predict 3-1 for PGP, I think they have played more solidly. Tricky thing is that the best way not to play Secret until the final is to finish with the same position as them. If both Am and YY win, Am vs Secret semifinal will be very likely to happen.

Of course, my predictions are worthless

Agreed, that does feel weirdly inconsistent. I like the general idea of rewarding someone for a close series tho.

Yes. I play volleyball and we like it and we hate it. So it is probably a good system.
It is used since 4 or 5 years in league games to reward the losing team for a close game, since there can't be a draw.

does it also punish the winner ?

the other way to do scoring would be winner always gets 3 points
but if the loser takes 2 games, he gets one point

Yes. Volleyball (indoor) is normally played as Bo5. You get 3(win)0(loss) points for 3:0/3:1. But 2(winner) and 1(loser) points for 3:2. So exactly like in BOA.
In the first season there was actually a lot of disscusion about it since it takes some excitement from the tie-break. But the FIVB kept it, since it give a better representation of the skill level of 2 teams, which I also can understand.

 

My predictions
Secret Suomi 3-1 with TheViper dominating
YY Heresy 3-1 with the usual god tier teamplay by YY
aM VNS 3-0 with the superior individual skill of aM players deciding the series
RoR PGP back and forth 3-2 with teams winning their home maps and the arabia game deciding the series.

1 clear win + 1 close loss gives you the same points as 2 close wins.

Now whether you should consider them equal or not is upto you.

 

if u win 3:0 and lose 2:3 u have 5:3 score and 4 points
if u win 3:2 and 3:2 u have 6:4 score and 4 points

seems fair to me. especially considering u need to win 2 times on your NOT homemap for a 3:0 (and at least once for a 3:1)

Yes It is exacty the same as Volleyball but I also like it fo BOA with the way Home maps are played out. Even if You win Arabia if you want to win the full set of points yo must "break" (in tennis turms) one of the opponents maps. If You lost Arabia it is even harder as you must win one Homemap and than two opponent maps in a raw. On another hand with good preparartionand execution you can take smth from a better opponent winnin your two home maps.

For me were great games. Suomi loose the series with the same error in arabia and coloseum. Also zuppi didnt Wall Good his Wood and lost the game.
in canyon lake max stay too much time in Castel, and cant help villese that was raped.

You are absolutelly right that it is much better to comment the games themselves. But do you see how with such request the discussion is instand GG. Aoezone thrives on drama man 11.

PS. Absolututelly loved every set myself even the one sided ones. But Lyx yolo performance against Viper tops it for me.

 

i dont understand how china become really Good in so few time. in tete they loose 3-0 against suomi and secret, now they beat them. yeah it was 3-2 but they beat them.
yo is playing really Good, and the one that really improve is paladin, he is playing really Good.
i didnt see viper playing at the level he used to play

 

At the moment, i think that YY had the most impressive performance considering their seedings, but i was extremly impressed by Am: they have the highest individually skills and they play without pressure, at least for now.
Secret, according to me, didn't show for now their best strategies but I think that they need viper being "TheViper" for winning the tournament. I would like to see Slam playing some games too, in Tete looked strong as flank.

but heresy have 1 point and YY have 4. How can heresy reach YY?

if you win to someone 3-0 or 3-1 you gain 3 points, and if you win 3-2 you have only 2 points?.

 

Ok I just checked the rules. That is so bad. you are making a draft and have a lot of civs, so every game is not a "full potential game". Wining 3-2 is not that diferent of winning 3-1, because part of the game is the fact that you have 1 millon civs and then you will have some strenght there and some not there. Also you are not rewarding this way the fact that you make a good draft to gain a victory on the last map for example.

I get the fact or rewarding if you loose 3-2 or maybe even 3-1 and not 3-0. but winning 2 points for going 3-2 and wining 3 points for going 3-1 is kinda messed up for me.

So YY beat suomi and secreat (lets say potential 1 and 2 on the group) but they can get out if they tied wiht heresy because heresy won over them? that is ridiculous man. If you are gonna count who won over who on a tied spot, you have a team wining 2 sets and wining top 1 and 2 of the group, and other team wining only 1 set and agains potential 3-4 of the group, and that is what you take in consideration?.

Lets hope it doesnt happen (doesnt fell like is gonna hapen anyway) but for me this is just wrong.

In any other aspect, fantastic tournament.

Try look at this another way. If YY has 6 points from the two narrow victories, they would have won the group and their match against Heresy would have be meaningless. But now, with this scoring system, all 4 teams still have everything to play for, even almost every game counts. That's excitement all the way.
