While we are still finalising everything, we figured people might have some general questions about the tournament. Keep in mind that you will be getting all the rules and settings whiting the next few days.

Is there gonna be/how many will there be substitute players per team? I see people's concerns of some top teams consisting of four players, so I wonder if there will be some changing of players in-between games depending on the map?

Once registration is open, a team can sign up with a maximum of five players.

EDIT: Five players, not four.

Will it retain the civ drafting format (15 unique civs per team) we saw in the first BOA?

We're currently deciding on this and will give an official answer with the release of the rest of the settings.

true i'v always been a fan of letting 3 respected people make a list and then take the avg of those 3 as ur final seeding since u can boost rating quite easily

Seeding will be done using the 1v1 ladder on DE. The TG ladder is simply not usable yet.

Doubt that works for tgs. Since the number of well known teams is too few.

Silly question, but why are the player colors so limited (three preset colors on each team)? I love the personality the players bring to the table with their color choices when they play.

Im guessing we are only going to see colors 1 to 6 as the fixed position format suggets green/yellow to be pockets with blue/purple facing on one side and red/cyan facing on the other. This means player colors choices will be limited to the role they take for each game. It also means one player may play different colors during a match depending on the role he takes. Viper for example may play yellow as a pocket first game but in game two Secret may decide to have Daut as pocket (yellow) while Viper takes red on the flank.

Great tournament, really looking forward to it! One question regarding the group stage. In the handbook out says that the groups are 1357 and 2468. Wouldn't it be more fair to assign the teams as in a seeded bracket? So 1458 and 2367? That way the sum of seeds in both groups is the same and the top seed as the easier group than seed 2

That's no argument. If the system works for 1v1 by rating single players, the same people should also be able to think about the strength of teams of those same players form teams together.
Yes, it will probably not be 100% accurate, but neither is it for 1v1 seedings and it will be for sure better than any seeding based on a ladder which is easy to manipulate.

So I think people rating the teams is very likely the best option we have.

That's a very good point! I hope it will be implemented in the tournament settings (and I think there is no reason not to).
It's pretty bad if being seed 2 is straight up better than being seed 1 (the same for 4 and 3, 6 and 5, 8 and 7).

I think the reason is that you are not supposed to meet group stage opponents again before the final* and they want to have the potential semifinals 1v4 and 2v3. That would be more important than having 1v4 and 2v3 in group stage.

*You can't avoid that option but it makes sense to avoid it for the "standard" case that the higher seeds win

Be honest dux. You were watching someone stream today and saw dozens of people asking why daut was yellow and viper was red. You don't want to mod a stream when that's happening.

Colour choice is how fixed positions work. If you pick yellow you are flank for your team.

This is aa big problem for Suomi as max can't be pocket and teal which is his op colour.

Technically you could have any set of colors, since the game puts the players clockwise by ascending number of player color in most cases. However there are some limitations with special maps where the scripter sets the colors, in which case you need the players to choose three exact colors. For consistency and to make it easier to cast, forcing the teams to choose cold or warm colors is also simpler (and much appreciated).

You could technically add grey and orange to the pools of color without causing too much issues (grey would even let teal be pocket by the way :sneaky: ) aside from the special maps I mentioned before.

It's mostly for consistency. We want the players to use the cold/warm colours that everyone has come to love, and limiting them to six colours means we won't see random grey and orange players every now and then - that could cause confusion.
Or maybe we did it to try and nerf TheViper and TheMax, you'll never know!

As of now, this is intentional and will remain as it is. It's absolutely worth bringing up, however - and it is something we will discuss internally.

I can understand why seeding is mostly done on 1v1. However, would it not make sense for a small weight to be applied to the tg ladder?

Given that this is a TG tournament, I don't think it should completely ignore those who mostly play TGs. However, I concede that the ladder is not accurate, which is why I think only a small weight should be given.

Edit: I also wonder at the giving the returning teams an extra boost of points. Is this a "make the rich richer" policy? If anything, they shouldn't need it
