AOE-II best civ against the Byzantines

Who is the best civ to ue against these guys?

i use to own biza with aztec, celt, mayan and somethimes with mongol drush... :roll:

Celts. M@a in feudal, siege later on.

Late game to counter ECats - EMangudai, ELbow, arbalests (esp Mayan/Brit). Celt HScorps/halbs will also work well (mix in onagers/rams for skirms).

Mayans - Either with drush + ew, drush + boom, or straight ew, straight boom(with walls)etc.

Aztecs would work well early game i guess, but late game can be a risky choice.

Also, civs with good M@A Rush like Japs, which have good time countering byz late game as well. Goths, Celts etc can be risky late game, like azt, but good early game.

Myabe I gonna sound like an *****, but with every civ u can beat Byz I think. Lets say u got Huns, u can do scouts in feudal against his skirmis, if he mass units and go on u, u make 1-2 towers... He cant so fast mass skimis+spears as u can fast come into Castle age. Then in castle u can make some knts and cav archers... good upgraded knts can eat all his skirmis+spears. If he made bigger army he cant get so fast to Castle.But If he still use skirmi+ pikes there, I think u can count without so much problem... In late game vs Catas, Cav archers or Palas, or even Cavs

Best unit vs Cata= Mangudai, but full upgraded cav archers can also count, I think

Ofc, if u play against Byz experts, this is all relative dunno if they know the Byz so good and have strategy for all.

I dont agree. Byz wont be making skirms only against scouts. A few spears can greatly reduce effectiveness of scouts. If byz can attack early enough with few spears and skirms against hun eco, he can win.

Knight-Ca in castle age can be beaten with pike-eskirm. Ca-mangonel poses some trouble usually. What byzantines would struggle against IMO is walling and not being able to get access to huns eco. (But huns dont have houses so usually they dont wall as much). Byz spear-skirm army would dominate hun scout-archer or scout-skirm IMO in a prolonged feudal war.

I think it depends on wich age you are playing.

IMO in dark / feudal age, drush civs like meso, japos and celts are cool vs biza.

In castle age, i think aztecs can be very useful, since they have a good eco bonus, u can spam ews pretty fast and mix them with mangonels (which is great against biza cheap army). Even ib biza goes knights, u can hold them with ew + monks. And their knight rush shouldnt be so harmful, since they dont have bloodlines.

In post imperial, if u suposse biza is going elite cataphract, then civs like celts or azt are not so good. I'd say mongols and maya would work fine. Why? because cataphracts are weak against arrows, and mangudais and plums are the best arrow units. They even work fine vs elite skirms, if u mix with some rams or hussar / ew.

Celts skorps are a good counter for cataphracts too, but you need too much eco and a closed map.
