I used to check ellie4k's steam occasionally in disbelief just to take it in how insufferable she is, so needless to say I did not really give the B stream a chance. The 5 mins I watched she did seems to tone it down a lot compared to her own streams, maybe if she keeps it up I'll be able to endure ellie4k streams in the future without dying from the inside.

It's not quite that - but Twitch has introduced the "Ad Incentive Program" (AIP) for Partners (will refer to Partners as we're talking about the B stream on Nili's channel). The AIP gives streamers 3 options to choose from which typically looks something like this: "Run 1min of ads per hour and we pay you $, run 3mins of ads per hour and we pay you $$, run 6mins of ads per hour and we pay you $$$". The amount of ads per minute, and the payment amounts depend on a lot of things and I'm not 100% sure how exactly they calculate it, but some variables are; CCV, amount of non-subbed CCVs, whether the streamer has accepted or declined previous AIP offers, etc.

Streamers don't HAVE to accept the AIP offer, but for most it's worth it because Twitch is making it look like "oooh big amount of easy money here take it". It's up to the streamer to weigh up whether the impact on viewer experience is worth the extra money. But if your favourite streamer is now suddenly getting hit with 6 minutes of ads an hour this kinda explains that change.

Twitch has also rolled out the Ad Manager tool to streamer dashboards. This is actually really handy because it gives a notice when an ad is about to play, and within a stream the streamer has 3 opportunities to delay an ad for 5 minutes.

Alongside all of this, is the ability to disable pre-roll ads (ads that play before a viewer can see your stream when they tune in). By running 30s of ads, pre-rolls are disabled for 10mins. 60s of ads disables pre-rolls for 20mins. 90s of ads disables pre-rolls for 30mins.

To put that all together, how I run ads on my channel for example is that I've accepted the lowest AIP offer (1min of ads per hour). I run the first lot during my start soon screen, so pre-rolls are disabled for the next 20mins. I then use the ad manager to time my 1min of ads per hour throughout the stream to land in-between games.

SORRY FOR THE HUGE OVER-EXPLANATION HAHA, I just know this is something that is frequently misunderstood. Heck maybe I misunderstand it too despite my efforts 11

It's surprisingly hard to find those facts and even a lot of streamers don't know everything about it (saw their confusion in regards to ads way too many times, even from really big ones outside of aoe scene, who have been twitch partners with thousands of viewers for years) so your input here is incredibly valuable. yeah just throwing my 2 cents in as i just started following the event from the beginning, im like halfway through the first day on redbull, seeing the B stream spoilers aplenty, wondering why there was no video in the redbull channel for the B stream.
It was only until just now on reading this post did I learn that Nili was hosting the B stream, and not a redbull channel. I have no real take on the politics of this matter, and nothing against Nili - but for christ's sake that should've been advertised or mentioned somewhere. if it was quipped during the intro or something, I didn't see. practically radio silence on the subject in the coverage videos on redbull, thats a bit ridiculous. didnt know it was on Nili's plate because I'm not subbed to his channel or really keep up with the details on these events in general as my main interest is the gameplay like many people.

What's the point of flying 16 players into Germany, giving them accommodation, interview, their own heraldry etc and then in some cases you only show them playing one BO3 on the main channel, like not even an hour?

Would have been far better to have more days, fewer players playing more sets or all of the above.

To add on to this, is very confusing to have "nili" stream showing something that's not nili, and I didn't check other streams, but I knew there was a B stream around so I eventually found it. I personally liked the A stream just fine though so I didn't even need it. Could be nice to have a schedule or somewhere in title also, who is casting. Because I'm only interested in watching a few casters so if I'm afraid there won't be my favorite I won't watch

The problem is it's a worse product for sets of equal or in some cases arguably more importance. Daut, a former Red Bull champion was knocked out on the b-stream, that should never happen.

1) You can't see half of games live even though it's a LAN hosted after long months of multi-threaded qualifiers (which btw had better coverage than main event)
2) You can't even watch the games later in your own time because stream A posts spoilers about stream B all the time
3) Casting quality on stream B was very poor, despite Survivalist's great effort
4) Matches played on stream B lacked production quality of stream A which
a) defeats the point of LAN with grand stage
b) is disrespectful to the players as they aren't treated fairly
c) many players only show up on big stage a single time

You might not care about problems, but if you can't see any of the obvious problems with stream B, i worry for you.

It's absolutely standard practice for other matches at the same event to have updates provided as they happen. Check any of the big CS:GO events, for example, or in football commentary (or any sport, for that matter), they will constantly provide updates about other matches happening simultaneously from the same event.

It's just never struck me as a problem. It's been a thing for a long time, and I think a lot of people are quite happy to accept that if they miss something live, they're unlikely to avoid hearing scores/results.

Just because something is a standard in other games doesn't mean it's universally good (or good at all). It is NOT a standard in Age of Empires II and should never be.

Everybody has their own caster they like, and Ellie was brought on for the b stream because she wanted to do it. Not much use in complaining about personal taste. For me I enjoy her casts because she treats the game as it is, like a game and not so serious. I have no idea about the "production" but idc about that. I'm used to and prefer casts which lack interviews, fancy transitions, just having the game and a caster only is no problem.

It does sound like it makes most sense for surv to have taken over the camera, but we don't know if behind the scenes , he would rather relax and have Ellie do that so he can concentrate on the cast.

Any B stream games are bonus. Did you not see the posts chrazini, etc made before redbull saying at last minute they would run more games and therefore a b stream? Red bull did a change here to improve their tournament and I think it was a great improvement

No, they are not. They are something that we as viewers are entitled to because we had them in the past. They are something that was taken away.

Which posts? Where? Also last minute changes aren't something good. Anyway, that's irrelevant.
There were no extra games. The tournament has the bare minimum amount of games for the amount of players involved.
All the games should have been on stream A. It was the organizers who failed to allocate appropriate amount of time to the task they took upon themselves.

That's wrong. Legacy is a downgrade compared to previous Red Bull tournaments in terms of game coverage.
