i started playing around 27/28.i really enjoyed aoe and ror and would play for hrs.I transitioned to Aoc after a few years and enjoyed the competitive nature of rating.im 43 now and rarely play.i dont have the time nor the energy.ill watch viper on youtube once in a while and post here from time to time.Aoc doesnt interest me as much as it used to,my life is full of family work and lifting.
i was 29 when i bought a CD-rom with about 30 demo-games on it in 1998. (downloading wasn't really a thing yet back then, because of the slow internet speeds) It contained the demo version of Rise of Rome, which exceeded all the other games on that disc in playing potential. I already had played games in my youth, but had not done so since i was about 20. I even didnt have a computer after that time. Finding AOE was a revelation to me, because i really was not impressed by the 90's games so far. I had been a great fan of some strategy games in the 80's.
When i got internet at home in 2000 i started playing it online, and wow, what a storm that place was (msn gaming zone)
I played it for 3 years, until the zone stopped supporting AOE. (what a drama that was) I didnt start playing AOC /AOE II because the smoother graphics made itlook like a kids game to me. I also didnt like the unit grouping / patrolling / movement. The great thing in AOE1 was you had to move every single unit yourself, microing trough all the game.
I finally started playing AOC in 2007. I have never really quit it, had a few months breaks sometimes. But i also had long periods with many games / day. Now i play 1 or 2 games a day. I dont think about stopping this.
