I've been wondering, after a while, if elephants are viable or not. I know the usual answer is "not in 1v1, yes on TG", but this is highly debatable, due to several reasons:
A) Usually, pockets civs in tg are Paladin civs. nowadays, we even hardly see indians.
B) IF we see any elephant civ, is khmer, which have far better elephants (and eco) than any other elephant civs.
I found myself rethiking about the matter after watching 2 pools tournament, where we get to see civs that we don't usually see (I.E Burmese as a cavalry-civ role, instead of boom into arambai) In fact, I think I remember watching agame where Viets were used to fill the roll of cavalry civ. yet I do not recall any elephant.
So, at the end, elephants are only viable (theoretically) in super-late team-game matchs, but are available only for civs that you wouldn't pick for pockets. So at the end they're viable only in a hypotetical situation.
Yeah, I know they can be super deadly in BF, but again, are we really balancing the game arround BF?
Again, I'm just a pleb, and I might not get the whole picture, but It seems to me that pretty much all elephants civs completely ignore them. In addition, Burmese revolve around a UU that never seems to be balanced. Take that out and they're, without any doubt, a weak civ.
What's your opinion ?
