AOE-II DE Are Burmese still underwhelming ?

I'm sorry but none of you guys know what you are talking about. Burmese weakness is early imperial age against HALB + arbalest. Champions don't cut it because they die super hard to arbs before they can kill halbs, scorpions are far too expensive to upgrade in early imp, arambai die to arbs, skirms with only 5 PA die to arbs, CA die to arbs.
Burmese castle age is fine. You can mirror xbow opening vs your opponent just fine due to the free wood upgrades, then transition to knights and siege afterwards. They just die to halb arb in early imp unless they can somehow hold until they get a maxed out food eco.

Oh I get it now. Burmese have super weak skirmishers which means they struggle in any of the myriad game situations where the generally excessive power of elite skirmisher provides a convenient solution to a problem with game balance.

They are one of the best civs on the first 15 mins or so in arabia. As the game goes longer they have absolutely no units that are worth doing

They’re an awesome Civ on nomad and arena, but they can’t deal with archer civs until post imp. I think the civs fun, but until they get the second archer armor upgrade they’ll never be able to compete.

I don’t even think that’s a huge deal, not every Civ will be completely viable on every map.

Honestly they’re best on maps where you can abuse castle drop arambi monk push

Again, castle age is fine for them, they get mangonels and scorpions like every other civ. Knight + siege is all you need in castle age against xbow. What they struggle against is EARLY IMP. Your siege becomes useless once the xbow mass becomes an arbalest mass with bracer, as do your knights (and your cavalry is even more useless once the opponent gets halbs out, and there is no unit in the Burmese's tech tree that effectively counter halbs that does not also get obliterated by arbalests, except for heavy scorpions, but the heavy scorp upgrade is too expensive to work in early imp). Honestly, "Heavy Scorpion upgrade free" would fix Burmese imo.

I heard full Champs against arb is actually pretty good for Burmese... I think Miguel has a build for this

edit: + blast furnace for malians and farimba nerf to +3 (and cost reduction). so easy to balance the game. wtf are the devs doing?

i had them couple of times while playing random on Arabia RM, and had the same experience. I think i have 80% win rate (4-5 Games with them). In my opinion and how my games went feudal and early castle age due to the free wood upgrade is super strong, but yes as longer the game goes the harder it gets.

Lazy design civ. There would never be a way to counter the super OP xbox line without +2 armor. Should be removed or changed.

I think you cannot it a lazy design civ when giving the +2 armor would be the lazy solution. By not going for the +2 the devs have given themselves a challenge and I appreciate that

100% agree on this. I think that there's an answer outthere. We just need to find it :D

Give Burmese rhe cav armors for free.
Gives them a power spike in early castle to deal with the power spike of xbow
We already have civs with free melee attack, free archer armor, why not free cav armor?
Still wouldn't be an S-tier civ IMO
