So Burmese Elephants got buffed, as well as the Arambai. Is this enough to make them a decent civ? Or are the still dying to archers? are they still an aweful civ in open maps ?

They should start removing a civ for every new one they add. Burmese would be top of that list, no one would miss them.

They buffed the Burmese units which were already strong (and unviable in 99% of matches 11)- their elephants.

What's the Arambai buff, that they are created faster? Decent, but nothing to get hyped about.

So yeah, I think they're still **** in regular maps, and got a small buff in closed maps.

STILL not having +2 PA for archers is just sad

I don't understand how buffed elephants are supposed to contribute in 1v1. They might tank more shots, but what are you supposed to do with this civ when opponen can mix in monks and pikes before elephants can even get to his base?

burmese die to archers so hard man. devs think elefants with more armor solfs this but making elefant in 1v1 is rarly a good idea.

You have cavalry +5 vs archers though so the idea PROBABLY is to go Hussars + champs. Similar to the ultimate Malian combo ( one of the best in the game and affordable ) Farimba LC + champskarls

Besides, having +1/+1 armor for elepants as civ bonus and then +1/+1 as UT looks wrongly designed.

It seems like the correct gameplan for them in 1v1 arabia is going full knights, but it also feels weird for a civ whose strengts are not focused on knight line.

Dude honestly just give Burmese Leather Archer Armor. Having +2 elite skirms is enough for them to survive the "Xbow" threat. If they are worried the arambai will become too strong then just reduce their P armor by 1 and all is good in the world

How that helps in imperial to deal with massed arbalests? in castle age at least mangonels and scorpions can be used, even Knights.
But in Imperial, No siege Ram, No Siege Onager, No heavy Scorpion lol, trash skirmishers, having to go into a UT that requieres a castle though the cheaper price may help), and battle eles that are too expensive and too countered with halbs and monks?

Umm you go for a full castle age play with kts skirms, and then make cavaliers/hussars if it gets to that? How do you think franks or burgundians or huns or persians or teutons or slavs deal with arbalests? They all transition into cavalry, and believe me when I say Burmese have a unit in imp which is pretty strong against arbs - Hussar with +5 attack against arbs. You have to change your strategy based on the civ matchup lol, you cant just put your hands up when you get Burmese against any arb civ and say "I am dead he has arbalest I can't win"

To get to mass arbs your enemy needs to survive till imperial age. Your entire game plan should be based on the fact you go full castle age knights + siege + skirms to deal with a faster imp arb play. And with knights you have to raid him, so he can't just simply "mass" arbs. (It's a very different story if the map is a campfest like Mongolia or something where the top tier civs are Arb civs bc you can get away with a fast imp play) But on Arabia or most other maps, you have to make use of the time window to punish your opponents greed into going for a faster imp

And I don't think Burmese even struggle against arbs in imp. They have FU Hussar with +5 vs archers and Champs/Halbs with +7, they just need a huge food eco to sustain production. If you give me a mid-late imp battle between Burmese vs any Arb-Halb civ like even Mayans or Ethiopians, I give my chances to Burmese (Assuming they have boomed to any insane food eco)

Yep, the issue with burmese that franks or similar civs don't have is that they struggle in castle age. I think that xbow spike is even more powerful than arbs spike.

Give them that funky, dodgy rider guy that the new civ has that can dodge arrow fire and they're good to go.

Would replacing the BE bonus with a bonus for faster moving Scorpion projectiles be too busted for a civ that has already a good Smush? In regards to fighting Crossbows without +2 Skirms.

Burmese only seems to struggle vs archer civs. A small buff would help but they are decent againt most other type of civ

remember that age is not only RM, there are other modes.

They are at there worst in castle age against xbow civs this patch changed nothing about that.

Are monks good against mass xbow? That seems to be the Burmese big weakness. I wonder how much of the perception they are inadequate is simply the power of mass xbow. It always feels bad to be extremely weak against a predominant strategy because of how frequently you encounter it and how effective it can be, but that doesn't mean the issue is with you rather than with that strategy. The power of mass xbow seems like it has been one of the most commonly brought up issues with AoE2 gameplay design over the course of DE.

Give their siege a boost! I was thinking more attack for their mangonels, but that was recently given to Saracens (although only through an imp unique tech). So maybe their scorpions +25% attack?

They usually die before they get a siege workshop out, so not sure that would help much. Most players would make a mangonel before a scorpion anyway

Lazy design civ. There would never be a way to counter the super OP xbox line without +2 armor. Should be removed or changed.
