AOE-II DE Archers vs meele pathing

Hello guys!

I was just playing a TG and had the impression that my knights were helpless against a mass of archers...
I'm not a good player (1300) but still wondering: Are archers OP or is the meele pathing that is bad?

Since DE, microing archers are pretty easy. The hit and run tatics is easy to perform even on low levels like mine.
On the other hand, knights get easily stuck behind each other all the time when going for the kills... they seem to not change they're path quick enough or not take into consideration the other knights in the group.
Hit and run archers are easy and microing knights are pretty hard.

Do you guys think that archers deserve a nerf, knights deserve better pathing or this all fine?

Well Pathfinding is broken since the Release of DE back in 2019 11

Over the past 2 years the Devs showed us they are not able to fix it or at least improve it.

Husbandry is very useful for this situation, also I think you're supposed to take like a third of the knights, go past the archers and cut their hit and run/retreat and surround them like that. Or at least when somebody does it to me I lose absolutely everything and it looks like the coolest maneuver ever. Maybe approach them splitting like a madman to save 3-4 knights.
Imho you probably aren't microing the knights enough while your opponent is microing the archers a lot, and losing because of that.

I guess it also depends on the numbers? People always say that there's a magic number of crossbows where you have enough to kill a knight in one or two volleys, at which point knights can't engage without backup from mangonels or your own ranged units without taking unacceptable losses. Once there's 20+ crossbows you're in that territory.

When approaching the crossbows, you can use some split micro to dodge arrows until the distance is closed.

Try to surround them from 2-3 angles instead of chasing from 1 direction. As soon as the crossbows have a path to run away again, select some knights to get ahead of them and block.

Oh, and perhaps most important part, don't engage until you are ready to. With melee units it's all about choosing the right time for the battle.

Since the last patch(?) unit pathing has been worse. I have noticed so much more weird bullshit happening with my units. Even trying to maneuver crossbows sometimes has been weird af (although melee units are affected much worse ofc). They messed something up

I haven't been playing too much lately, but tbh neither in KOTD nor in my own games I have seen much questionable pathing. Seems to be the best it has been on DE.
