My friend bought me gamepass because he was tired of me being lazy and not getting the $1 intro deal so I decided I might as well add myself to the legion of uncounted gamers bolstering the AoE4 playerbase and see what all the fuss is about. Because it is advertised as an Age of Empires game I decided to start evaluating with what is to me a classic part of the civilization RTS experience: an 8 player AI skirmish on Team Islands. I set myself as England joined by my good friends France, HRE, and Rus' on Team 3.5 Noble Christians, facing off against Team Evil Non-Whites (Abbasid, Delhi, Mongols, Chinese). Since I was playing as the English I of course sought to 34 once I reached the Imperial Age, and after amassing a sizeable fleet of carracks I set out to inform the rest of the world that they were going to be speaking my language on international message boards 500+ years in the future.
It was at this point that I realized I could not zoom out far enough to easily drag select the majority of my ships and from there it took about a minute of wrestling with this limitation while trying to marshal units to get so frustrated I started feeling nauseous and gave up. I have seen a lot of complaints about the zoom level but no one has mentioned it this way specifically so I'm curious if anyone else found it so problematic it made the game literally unplayable for them. I haven't tried for land combat but from what people have described with siege engines firing off the screen I imagine it could have a similar effect there.
