I’ve been playing a lot of aoe2. But I’ve watched a lot more of it. Unlike most e-sports aoe2 has a rich history of players and upsets. However there is a complete lack of stat tracking.
I wish there was somewhere were we could See stats from players:civilization win percentage, 1 or 2 TC rush, average drush villager kills, best maps, yearly power rankings.
esports like melee started to stat track like this, and it makes the broadcast so much more engaging, and allows new viewers to get into it more.
2019 super bowl between the patriots and the rams aired the same time as melee’s genesis tournament. my family, friends, and I are huge football fans, but the game was terribly boring.
I pulled up melee on a side TV and because they were able to pull up tournament stats for player match ups, and power rankings from last year, it allowed everyone to have a better understanding of the esport. Literally nobody there played smash. But everyone was so invested in the tournament and players.
I think the aoe2 professional scene is missing a huge opportunity to more easily grow their fan base. I hope this normie’s opinion is worth something. Thank you guys
