AOE 2 - Random Map Elo (R)Evolution
hi guys, i want to explain why we need a "new" and more accurate elo system.
and how it will motivate the people to play more different maps and reduce many of the problems we have now, especially in TG.
sorry for my bad english, i hope u understand the idea and point what i try to explain.
First we need to understand and accept that AoE 2 has map categories which requires different play style and knowledge.
This are the 5 big categories > Land Maps, Mixed Maps, Water Maps, Closed Maps, Nomad
We need a ladder for every category and a Main Elo for this 5 Category.
The Main Elo is the average elo of all those 5 categories.
We also need to identify every map with a logo which belong to a category.

Random Map - 5 Category (5 Ladder)
RM Main Elo 1v1 (example)
___________Player1__vs__Player2__Player1 W/L___Player2 W/L
Main Elo__1600_________1600__________________________________
LM_________1800__________1500______+04/-28_________+28/-04__
MM________1600__________1500______+12/-20_________+20/-12__
WM________1600__________1400______+08/-24_________+24/-08__
CM_________1600__________1950______+30/-02_________+02/-30__
Nomad_____1400__________1650______+26/-06_________+06/-26__
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. how to have a more accurate and fair rating system? and why this elo system is not
2. how to motivate more people to play different maps? and why this elo system dont
3. how to solve the problem about the multiple nicks in a "ranking list" and the elo cheater (smurfs)? and why many people do this
4. how to reduce the alt f4 issue? and why people do this
1.
imagine u are the worlds best in 100 metres race and than u have to run the 10.000 metres race to defend ur title. good luck with that!
imagine tennis would be played only on clay, nadal would be all time number 1.
or only on grass, this would favor federer a lot. there is a reason why they play the grand slam's on different court surfaces. winning one grand slam and dodging the other will not be possible for the player to be in a top 10. so dodging gets useless if u wanna be higher ranked.
we need to add the 5 category ladder to define the RM Elo. the matchmaking will be much more fair and accurate. 2 guys who has the same main elo but different home maps ends up with losing less elo to the enemies home map wich is more fair than the system now.
dodging will still be possible, but gets useless and rarly because people have less to lose and the system treat them fair.
this elo system now thinks if u 1500 on land maps u must be also 1500 in closed maps or water maps wich is totaly wrong. u can get a opponent with the same elo but he is much better in the other maps because he knows the maps and played them much more. than this people lose a lot and their elo drop fast. the map dodging starting because they dont want to lose the elo where they put so much effort to get it in their favorite map. also they get weaker opponents when the elo drop alot and the games are not that good any more on the fav map.
2.
allowing the player to keep their elo at one category, and giving them the opportunity to learn and improve at other maps in a different ladder.
people will be motivated to play different ladder because it represent the real rating on other map styles and the opponents are equal.
switching btw the categories is a big step in this game for player who are not very good or pro.
the ones who plays only one map style will have lower main elo. this makes 1/5 of his main elo.
example: 1700/1200/1200/1200/1200 = 1300 RM Main Elo
people who plays many maps good will have a higher main elo than a player who is very good at only one map/category.
people will be more motivated to play a map who they dont know when they start at 1k in this category because they know my fav map/category elo is untouched. and many will play differnt maps because they want to climb the other ladder to have a higher main elo.
3.
on voobly many people created more nicks for dif. maps, to find out how far can they go.
define the main elo with the 5 category (ladder) gives every nick more value and harder to take part in the main elo ladder (means less smurfs and multiple nicks). having one nick should be more atractive.
to be ranked in one category u should have played at least 10 games, that means u need 50 games to appear in the main elo ladder. or at least activate 4 of the 5 category (still 40 games).
example: 1800/1800/1800/1800/1000 = 1440 RM Main Elo
the team elo cheater where one player create a new nick to help the other guy to increase his elo can be stoped by making a elo limit btw the highest and lowest in a team. somthing btw 600-1000 in tg i would say. that means the game is unranked when the limit is to high.
example 2v2: 3k+1.8k (2.8k real skill) vs 2.4k+2.4k gives the team 1 full points when win and the chance of winning is more than 95%. with the real nick they would get 0 points and team 2 would lose 0 points.
elo cheating is now even more easy with the new rating systeam and motivate people to do it. this kind of cheat shouldnt be supported and tolerated. this is a reasson why many people have bad experieance in tg and quit playing. they feel betrayed.
if ronaldo is my friend it doesent mean i can play in the champions league foodball with him or he can join my club in the 7th league and manipulate the ladder by destroying other teams there. for this kind of fun we have the unranked lobby.
4.
we need the 5 category ladder to encourage people to learn and improve different maps on their own level.
people are not dodging only the maps, there are many other reasons. like the ally they get can be a abuser, quitter, 0 talk in a tg (can be language barrier), or start to increase their apm by hitting the flare button 20 times in 10sec, lag in the game or insult the team mates.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
other small details
what about mega random map?
whould be nice if the game knows once u start the map in which category ladder u play.
example: no water on map (less than 5%) and u start with a tc is Land Map Ladder. starting without a tc and sc and vills are random over the map is Nomad Ladder. starting with a stone wall around ur tc (like fortress) u play the Closed Maps Ladder.
the elo awarding for MR depend on which category they play. matchmaking for MR is the main elo.
what about this maps, in which ladder would u put this maps?
"Hide Out" LM or CM?
"Steppe" LM or Nomad?
"Baltic" WM or MM?
"Hill Fort" LM or CM?
"Crossroads" LM or MM?
"Mongolia" LM or CM?
"Yucatan" LM, MM or CM?
"Oasis" LM or CM?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
what parts of this idea would u like to see in the future, which u think are good or bad for the community?
