There are some workarounds, but none of them is perfect as playing the music from CD inside CD/DVD drive.
1# Maybe the best and the easiest solution, as Cysion suggested, is that you rip music off the CD, then play it inside your media player. The bad side is that you will hear the music all the time (even while in game menu). Good side is that bad side isn`t that bad at all :D
2# The creative solution is to rip the music off the CD as a single mp3 track (or join mp3 tracks inside some audio editor), then rename the file(s) to something like "43 AoK music.mp3" (and "44 AoC music.mp3", for example), and put them into your "Taunt" folder (usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\Taunt).
While in game, you may send 43 or 44 as a chat message to activate the song compilation you want to listen to. The bad side is that you need to activate it manually, it does not repeat once finished (you have to activate it again), and you can make a real mess out of it if you activate it (send taunt message) again while it is still playing because it will start again each time, without interrupting previous play (you`ll here all the songs playing at once, overlapping). The good side is that you can choose the song while in game (you may even make each song a separate taunt file, but that requires more often reactivating).
3# Interesting solution is to use midi files from AoK and AoC demo/trial versions. Download this file (86 KB), then unpack it and put "midi" folder into your "Sound" folder (usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\SOUND). It is now needed to force the game to play the midi files as background music.
To make it work offline (when starting the game via desktop shortcut), do this:
Right click your desktop shortcut, click Properties.
In Target field, it should say "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\Age2_X1\age2_x1.exe" (with quotes). Add MidiMusic at the end, so it says "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\Age2_X1\age2_x1.exe" MidiMusic (don`t remove the quotes).
Press OK.
To make it work while playing online, editing registry is needed:
1) Go to Start > Run, type regedit, press OK (Registry Editor will open).
Go to Hkey_local_machine/Software/Microsoft/DirectPlay/Applications/Age of Empires II - The Conquerors Expansion.
Double click CommandLine to open it for editing.
Value data field should say Lobby. Edit the text so it says Lobby MidiMusic (capitalization is not important).
Press OK, close Registry Editor.
The good side is that you will have background music as you would with your CD in drive. The bad side is that it isn`t exactly the same music, nor the quality of midi files can match mp3 quality of original tracks - but it may satisfy your needs.
p.s. CsR_mOd, I know you personally didn`t need this detailed instructions, but I wanted to make sure they are clear enough for everyone to understand

CsR_mOd, I found out that VEG patched 1.0c version exe file so it can play mp3 music from folder (he talks about it here | translated), but I couldn't find the patched exe for download. I don't know if that patch is also included in his AoC VEG MOD, I tried a few things but couldn't make mp3 music work. His patch would be a perfect solution for offline play, but it wouldn't work on Voobly because of the anti-cheat :?
