Announcing the 2021 AoE2 German Championship

I'm happy to bring to you the AoE2 German Championship of 2021 with a € 3.000 prize pool, very generously donated by TeeJay!

Germany has one of the biggest communities, largest pool of high level players, and have been a vital part of the Age of Empires II history, and it's time to crown a Champion, once again.

With many high level players hailing from , it's going to be fascinating to see which 20 players will be involved in the 2021 German Championship. If you miss out this year, we're aiming for this to be a yearly event, so better prepare already for this to come your way in 2022 as well!

The tournament will be a fairly fast paced and efficient tournament, lasting for just 2 weeks, with the top 4 players being secured invites directly to the main event of 8 players, whilst 16 players will compete in a single elimination to determine the remaining 4 spots. As we approach weekend come February 5th, the main event begins with a single elimination bracket of the top 8 players competing to prove that they drink the most beer, wear white tennis socks the highest, consume the most currywurst and play the best Age of Empires II in Germany, to be the winner of the 2021 AoE2 German Championship!

Did anyone cast the qualifiers?
It would probably help me quite a bit to watch that and analyze this way, as I don't have that much playing experience yet. Most of my experience comes from watching other people play - but putting it into practice is quite a different thing. So watching a cast where I know what I was thinking ingame would be very helpful

If I recall correctly Dekodie wants to cast all quali-matches on his channel. You could drop by and ask him when he wants to cast your set.

Of course there have to be quite some things that are going pretty well, but I expect there to also be some mistakes which could be fixed pretty easily. I'm for example very inexperienced when it comes to the usage of Siege Workshops and Mangonels in Castle Age and try to add that more and more to my gameplay.

Very excited for this. I'm happy and curious to see maps like hideout and arena. This gives more defensive players a better chance. I'm eager to see how this plays out and what kind of comebacks this will yield.

Concerning the rules, a few subjective suggestions.

• Since the new expansion I've been getting drastically worse maps than before, and more frequently too. (Looking at Reddit, I'm not the only one.) I'm not sure if the custom maps fix such issues. The rules don't say anything about restarts and recent tournaments have not use restarts AFAIK but personally I'm a fan of one re per set per player in the case of very bad maps, but of course I don't make the rules. Just a suggestion. Admin re might also be possible in the case of bugged maps, but k like one player re in the case of bad (not bugged) maps. EDIT: not sure if I missed it or it has been added, but there is now one restart per player in the rules. That's nice.
• Following the drama, it might not hurt to specify that in the case of a disconnect (or re, if that is allowed) that players are not allowed to look at the map after it is revealed. This something you cannot check, but it doesn't hurt to make it explicit in hopes that people show some sportsmanship. (I know that opinions are divided about this and whether or not it should be allowed in the first place, so I'm just giving it as a suggestion so the organizers can do with it what they want.)

I can't wait to watch the new civs in action. I hope the players have some new and interesting strategies that they try out. A German champion will officially be crowned. Let's goooo!!
