What?
Today, after a long time of wanting to bring an event for the community, I am pleased to announce the first batch of Open Elo Cups! A series of tournaments aimed at the masses, at the mere mortal, with the first two events targeting low and mid-elo 1v1 DE players.
The events will have a prizepool for the top spots, as well as coaching sessions for the winners of each one. Most importantly, during the entire event, we will be raising money for charity.
For whom?
The elo caps for these tournaments will be set at 1150 and 1300 respectively (more details below). Anyone who's lower than 1150 will be able to sign up to the low elo event, and anyone between 1151 and 1300 will be able to sign up to the mid elo one.
When?
Both tourneys will be played in parallel throughout August, with coverage on my channel.
How?
Sign ups are currently open, and you can participate in the tournament that best matches your elo as long as you meet the criteria below:
Low elo:
- Have an elo of 1150 or lower at the time of registration
- Have an all time high elo of 1175 or lower at the time of registration
Mid elo:
- Have an elo of 1300 or lower at the time of registration
- Have an all time high elo of 1325 or lower at the time of registration
Both:
- Your all time high elo, if higher than the elo cap, is from before this announcement (July 20th)
- Your player account is older than July 1st
- You have at least 35 ranked 1v1 games at the moment of registration
When talking about all time high elo ignore the elo calculations during placement matches.
Please, sign up to one tournament only. The one that adjusts to your current elo the best, given the conditions above.
To sign up to the low-elo event, visit the Sign-Up (Low-Elo) thread.
To sign up to the mid-elo event, visit the Sign-Up (Mid-Elo) thread.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: July 31st 23:59GMT
Prizepool and Charity
We have a total prizepool of $300 for both events combined, as well as coaching sessions from high level players of the winner's choice (available coaches below).
The prize distribution for each tourney will be as follows:
1st: 50% + 1 coaching session
2nd: 30%
3rd: 10%
4th: 10%
Available coaches: Capoch, Dragonstar, F1Re, Hallis, Angelina Jolie (time constrained), Chris/PlusNomad (arena specialist)
Charity
Throughout the tournament we will be raising funds for Doctors Without Borders. They fund health workers all over the world to help those most in need. In these times of pandemic, it's hard to find a more noble cause. The Age community has helped some good causes in the past already and I believe we can pull this one out, too!
Timeframe
The tournament will be played throughout August. Coverage will be provided on https://twitch.tv/novaaoe
For a detailed breakdown of the timeframe, including qualifiers and live finals, check Rules and Settings
Rules and Settings
Check the full set of rules and settings in the Rules and Settings thread.
If you'd like to increase the prizepool for this event, talk to me privately.
If you'd like to recommend a player or propose yourself as a coach and you're an expert player, comment below or talk to me privately.
The tournament is meant to be fun to play for players. I will be checking back and will be taking feedback into account in case settings need to be changed, or I haven't taken something into consideration.
