Hey all, I just discovered these forums yesterday! (Usually I use the official aoe forums)

I'm a main aoe4 player and would love to discuss the game, I played aoe1 as a child and recently repurchased it to relive some old memories, I've also played age of mythology.

I've never played Aoe2, but would be interested in checking out some content creators from time to time!

In full transparency, I discovered the forums from the egc golden league announcement post, and am likely to post about aoe4 (both the good and the bad!) - is there a specific section on these forums where that would be most appropriate?

I just wanted to get the general consensus, in hopefully a polite way, before I posted anything!

Can you fully customize the hotkeys in aoe4 yet? I kind of refuse buying a 60 dollar game that is unfinished tbh.

Not yet (however it was possible for a few days in the latest beta patch and has been confirmed to be in the next patch release)

I've already paid my $60, but mostly looking forward to the custom map/scenario editor, to me that's the most incomplete/missing thing!!

Any constructive and genuinely interesting post you will make about AoE4 here is very likely to be bashed up and trolled.
That's already something that would happen with most serious AoE2 subjects, but I don't want to lie, this will be worse if you mention AoE4.
For some obscure reason this forum is completely unmoderated and no authority figure seems to care about it at all.

You would be welcome by some of us, but, as another poster said. This is pretty much an unmoderated toxic waste dump. It is sad, because some judicious moderation and banning would go a long way toward improving what was once a pretty decent forum.

I can recommend checking out AoE 2 as well. Basically without AoE 2 HD's success + the player base from Voobly we wouldn't be here with AoE 1 - 3 DE and AoE 4.

Welcome! As you've read, aoe4 is a divisive topic- in reality, this is only a few, let's say.... 'passionate' people. There are plenty of us that are less vocal but still want to be helpful and friendly for newcomers- so welcome! Although it might not seem like from this forum, the aoe2 community is one of the nicest I've encountered in my life.

Which posts from the EGC thread would you have removed? Be specific. The jokes about player base? The criticism of Nili as tournament coordinator? Personally the post I see most in need of moderation is the one calling aoe2 fans pathetic, entitled, delusional, and toxic, while also saying blatantly untrue things like big tournaments only happen with external (non-MS) funding.

I will say calling aoe4 a dead game is a bit unfair. But other than that I don't see much toxicity at all in that thread.

This isn't true. It's only moderated when certain high profile pro's/streamers have their feelings hurt because they were caught being abusive, racist, cheating etc.

Then, miraculously -- posts get removed, topics get closed.

Would be nice. There are certainly a lot of spam posts and outright flaming that get tolerated that in a healthy forum would be sent to the trash can. It's likely because of this paradox where instead of moderating strategically it's cherry-picked, and so the lesser of two evils is to let most of the forum go relatively unmoderated as opposed to becoming over-moderated. That or there just isn't a dedicated moderator anymore or a desire to add someone to such a group.

On topic -- I would consider AoEZone pretty AOE2 focused. Sure, feel free to join the pool, but I would wager a good part of its residents have played aoe2 for a decade or perhaps more. Wary of having aoe4 shoved down their throats, all about tact.

AOE2 plebs have an aversion to unconventional strategies though, so a MongolTC rush might make them cry -- just a warning. These folks have been honing their Scrush and M@a archer builds for years (and still can't beat unconventional strategies.)
