Frequent game crashes for some people might be a reason for that, you never know if that person is quitting intentionally. It's ridiculous that the devs still haven't started handing out bans for this childish behavior.

With whichever system people proposed, the minority will literally have to wait forever. Thats why theres a map pool system, it gives everyone a significant chance to play their favourite map. As long as the map you want to play is in the map pool, youll get to play it.Seems like this debate pops up every month but I think the people who are pushing for punishing the alt-f4'ers with bans/cool down periods etc are way off base.
This is a time consuming game. Many people can't sit in front of the computer all day and only have time to play 2-3 games a day. I don't think it's unreasonable people like that to get to play the maps they want.

These dodgers (mostly arabia/arena players I assume) however, insist to play 100% instead of 90% of their favourite map, while making the minority play none.

What about people who have 1-2 hours per day to allot to AoE and have to queue up 3 hours to play their favourite map before bed/work?Who cares? Let people play what they want.
If you want to attract new players and keep them around it's not a winning strategy to prevent them from playing what they want, when they want. If you have 1-2 hours per day to allot to AoE and you queue up and get a water map when all you wanted to do was play a couple of Arabia games before bed/work I have no problem whatsoever with alt-f4'ing in a situation like that.
If some one wants to play a map which hardly anyone likes, no one should be forced to spend his spare time to grant this wish - it's supposed to be a game not a job. Either just wait longer or play a more popular map. With whichever system people proposed, the minority will literally have to wait forever. You never thought about them, becoz what youve been thinking was always yourself.

fair enough i agree with you there. I think its a selfish thing to alt f4, especially in tgs.As long as the ranked system is matchmaking then people should act appropriately to make the system work. This means one should not be dodging games after they get a map they don't like or smurf. Whether the matchmaking system should be reformed or get replaced by something else is a totally different discussion.
And what's wrong with that? If no one wants to play Islands with you, that's your own problem.1111
"Either just wait longer in the lobby or play the map pool."
Jokes aside, thats exactly what happened on Voobly. You either wait for an entire day for one islands (or whichever non-arabia/arena map) game, or you play arabia/arena. Then the first "traitor" joined the club, the queue became two days, then the second "traitor" joined, it became three days, then...... there were no islands games anymore.
1. The main argument i have heared against having unlimited bans is that people will get inflated rating, but i dont see that as an issue really since this person will only play his favourite map and therefore deserves that rating on that map?
Just put a penalty on the seeding rating for players that play only Arena, only Islands or whatever if your tournament is KOTD. Anyway, would Hoang even be 2k1 without Celts? If seeding for tournaments is the problem, then find a solution for that but changes in the matchmaking system shouldn't depend on what affects the 0.1%. Most top players already play only Arabia. This is indeed a major problem because every tournament nowadays bases its seeding, at least in part, on the 1v1 DE ladder.
That may be true in the case of Arabia players, it isn't true at all in the case of those of us who prefer closed maps. With the current map pools, if I were to play every single game I get I'd spend most of my time playing Ghost Lake or Acropolis. These dodgers (mostly arabia/arena players I assume) however, insist to play 100% instead of 90% of their favourite map

Jesus, man, are you ok? Where did my comment hurt you? A passing mention of how something like civ picking could also be a factor that affects seeding in tournaments really seems to have affected you. Maybe go play more Incas on Arabia and relax a little bit?Does it really bother people so much that when they're beaten by superior play they really have to invent an excuse instead of acknowledging their opponent simply chose a better strategy on a given map on a given day?
is that a problem of the ladder or a problem of the tournament seeding rules? This is indeed a major problem because every tournament nowadays bases its seeding, at least in part, on the 1v1 DE ladder.
Which means you could potentially have a player with a very inflated rating (due to playing just 1 map) taking the spot of a much better player.
Just think of this, there was a time where the highest rated player on Voobly was a guy who played exclusively 1v1 Michi DM...
I heard this argument so many times that I'll reply to it, because it's not true. Apparently none has an issue with someone who plays only Arabia, the issue comes with Arena specialists, Nomad specialists, water maps specialists, np. Those maps are getting lots of bans and would get even more if there would be unlimited amount of bans. Therefore the sample of the players playing such map is way lower. Right now, if you'd be 2k3 Arabia player you would be meeting players of similar rating and could improve the rating to let's say 2k6 (meaning dominating the ladder). On 2k3 playing Arena, you'd be already higher than basically anyone else, you'd have to be extremely dominating the Arena scene to be 2k4 playing only Arena with unlimited bans (out of all the players, only Viper right now might be able to keep 2k4 rating on Arena facing only Arena specialists with way lower rating). It has been the same on Voobly, you don't need to worry that 'some clown' would steal a spot from a 'legit top player'.This is indeed a major problem because every tournament nowadays bases its seeding, at least in part, on the 1v1 DE ladder.
