Age of Empires Liquipedia Help & Updates Thread

Hello Everyone!

As you might be aware, there is an official Age of Empires Liquipedia. It covers the history and competitive results from the Age of Empires 1, 2, 3, Mythology, Online, and 4. I am one of the volunteer editors in the project. As the wiki is a pure volunteer project, the most scarce and precious resource to have is contributors—basically, anyone who wants to add information to the wiki.

Currently, there are only a handful of editors (high volume contributors), and most of us are keeping the Age of Empires 2 section as updated as we can. To help bring more people in to contribute to the AoE2 or any other game, we had the idea to post and pin this thread where you can ask us editors questions about the wiki, and we will do our best to answer them.

I want to be clear that you do not need to put down hours and hours into contributing. Just helping to put flags on participating players, or adding results as they come in from small tournaments, or even short writeups or trivia about notable players is more than enough—every bit helps. And we, as editors, want to help you when you meet a roadblock!

To start, you only need to register in the TeamLiquid forums and then log in with that user in Liquipedia. After, you can begin contributing by clicking the edit on the top of any page or on the top right of a section inside a page. Most of the edits that happen daily are just plain text and dead simple.

I've loved the reception the AoE LP wiki has received from players and organizers. And I think with your help it could be even better. You can also join the Liquipedia discord and head on over to the Age of Empires channel to talk with everyone else who is contributing! So be Bold and contribute!

Even adding results of a tournament that you're watching would be really great, especially for the smaller/regional ones. For example there's still match results missing from the German Championship that's going on, the Clash of Anatolia is still missing a lot of results and many other smaller tournaments have data missing.

It would also be great to have some people with knowledge about tournaments from a long time ago, as brackets and recorded games on AoEZone are sometimes limited and it's hard to find data about these tournaments. Just simple information about where a player is from is very useful or who played for which team.

Liquipedia is great I really like it and I even help and contributed some things to de aoe page but I have to say sometimes things really struggle sometimes bucause you have to do "paper work" before adding something like a picture or a link to an interview etc. Maybe finding an easy way to help would boost things. Of course I know doing the "paper work" is probably what you guys are asking for, I just think maybe and just maybe could be an easy way to contribute if you are a confidence person.

It will always be a struggle for things like pictures because we need permission from the copyright owner to upload those pictures to commons (which is where all photos are hosted in LP).

For interviews, if it's a 1 on 1 with a player, you can always add them to their profiles. They usually have an interview section. If not, you can copy one from a player that does and then change the parameters to fit.
If the interview is directly related to a tournament (as in, the interviewer was asked/paid by the organizer to interview players), it can also go into the tournament page, again under the additional content>interviews section.

The only major thing we (editors) might get a bit anal about is transfers or player information. For example, if a player changes team, the BEST possible way to note it down is with a reference (a tweet, a post here, or anything that is publically accessible); otherwise, it has to be confirmed with the player themselves, which can take a lot.

If you (or anyone) ever feels like they would need to do a lot of paperwork before adding something you can always drop by the discord and let us know so it can still be added.

Hello Folks,

This is a short update just to announce we have overhauled the notability guidelines for the Age of Empires Liquipedia. This has been a two-month process of discussing the guidelines among contributors and scene experts. The key points are:

• You can now check a player's notability with a notability checker. If they pass a certain point threshold, they are entitled to a page you make yourself or ask for in the LP discord.
• Age of Empires IV now has Tier guidelines, along with a new system for all tournament guidelines that aim to de-prioritize prize pools in favor of competitive settings and diverse events that help the scene as a whole grow.
• There are now clear guidelines for Tournament Organizers (and Admins), Casters, and Map creators/scripters.

Also, the contributor team can always do with more people helping keep the wiki updated and running! Anyone can edit LP, and we, the contributor team, are always available for any questions.

A long overdue update has come through for the Age of Empires Liquipedia (and potentially other wikis). Your Tournament Panel filters will now automatically remember what they were set to from the last time you visited the site (as long you don't clear your cookies).

Hey there folks, another update:

There is now an official Twitter account for the Age of Empires Liquipedia wiki: @LiquipediaAoE. I, along with other contributors, will post things like new events, update ongoing events, changes in the wiki, etc. On top of retweeting esport relevant things from T90, Memb, Nili, Lida, Aussie_Drongo, Dave, the Official AoE Twitter, etc.

Basically a feed of things that are relevant to AoE esports. As always, this includes all AoE games.

Also, if any of you have ideas for things you would like to see us tweet in there let us know.

Surprised I forgot to post here, but there is now an official Age of Empires Liquipedia Twitter account!

Mostly used to give post-tournament shoutouts, birthdays, and big events (like RBW) If you have a Twitter account, feel free to follow it!

The main reason I came back here was to show you all the sick new special event panel we have on the AoE LP main page!

This is the first time we ever had one in the wiki. Considering the vast majority of wikis have one for their premier leagues and circuits, it feels like a pretty massive moment. Even if it's just a bunch of wiki code :P
