The actual source of this is Jeff Grub, which makes this "rumor" at least somewhat trustworthy. Some guy on the internet is saying so, so it must be true!
Edit: Just looked at the "Source" yeah it's very trustworthy because they just linked that YouTube video so you know it must be true.
Easy RTS doesn't work, Command and Conquer is way less complicated/complex then Age of Empires but the entry level is still very high. If you want to play RTS online you have to be willing to loses your first 10-20 games. It needs to be attractive for younger and bigger audiences, so the game will be quite different and less complicated, more automatic things and less units to maintain a simple and easy to learn army bonuses and compositions, probably the economy would be like villagers in aoe3.
Total War series happens to be one of the most popular RTS franchises to this day(and yes it IS in principle RTS), yet it revolves around fundamentally very simple mechanics and while the skill cap certainly isn't super low, it's far from what we have in AoE2, SC2 or similar; so it's easy, yet "works"Easy RTS doesn't work, Command and Conquer is way less complicated/complex then Age of Empires but the entry level is still very high.
If you want to play RTS online you have to be willing to loses your first 10-20 games. When I first started playing RTS online with Command and Conquer Zero Hour I lost my first 35 games and was fine with it. There are always some people that are okay with a learning curve and if there are not making a RTS game seams like a stupid idea.
Especially if you want to play DE. Friend quit playing trying to get to his ELO at 1200 after getting slapped 10+ times. If you want to play RTS online you have to be willing to loses your first 10-20 games.
We'll be happy if they actually fix the game before abandoning it. If they leave it with bad balance and bugs still prevalent, that'd suckPlus it's likely ms will shift focus away from supporting AoE2 in terms of balance changes, new content, further expansions to the game etc. Which I think would be a shame, although many on this forum would probably welcome it.
It is one of the biggest reasons why MS did not properly remaster AoE2 on a new engine so I find myself not only uninterested in actually playing it but also wishing to see it fail.Beside that though, I'm not sure how others feel but I personally am surprised by just how little I found myself caring about AoE4,
Are you saying popular in general or popular for competitive play?Total War series happens to be one of the most popular RTS franchises to this day(and yes it IS in principle RTS), yet it revolves around fundamentally very simple mechanics and while the skill cap certainly isn't super low, it's far from what we have in AoE2, SC2 or similar; so it's easy, yet "works"
The Victorian era seems like the logical time period as it directly follows from AoE3's early modern setting and was the last true age of "empires" in the traditional sense of that word.I feel like the logical thing to do would be to set it further forward in time, maybe a spiritual sequel to Relic's previous historical RTS game Company of Heroes, but with more complex eco management in line with previous AoE games.
I won't buy the game for the 4th time, but I feel that this money grab is gonna be a big failure.I really hope the game ends up being **** so that everyone keeps playing AoE2 coz I don't feel like moving over to a whole new game
It's official now, there's a trailer which also shows a bit more AoE4:
Inb4 its free to play :DI won't buy the game for the 4th time, but I feel that this money grab is gonna be a big failure.

Does it actually show a bit more tho? It's official now, there's a trailer which also shows a bit more AoE4:
Most scenes are from that, yes, but there are new scenes that we have never seen before, such as the HUD and a few other things. I'll make a video about this soon.Does it actually show a bit more tho?
Doesn't it just show the same footage from the trailer we got in 2019?
