I'm no defender of AoE4, but single point in time metrics are terrible comparisons, and games should always be compared using the 7 day or 30 day running average
That being said, if the current trend (and tapering) continues, AoE2 HD will be about the same size as AoE4 in about 6 weeks (on steam). Add in another couple of weeks to account for the much larger proportion of AoE4 players who are using game pass.

Do you have data to back this up? The previous data pulls from Simonsan and others showed the ratio to be closer to 2:1 Steam vs Gamepass, implying a 1.5x ratio to go from steam count to true player base.

Here's the graph that I'm referencing, which shows a much larger gamepass playerbase for AoE4 than other games in the franchise:

i think the difference is : your data shows the people installed the game, mine is active players. since play the game at xgp is free, lot of people at xgp installed it and tried, then moved on to other games, very few people remain as active player.

Its not people who installed that game, it is players on the ranked leaderboards which means they had played at least 10 games, and at least one in the last month.

Happy to look at newer data if you have it, but I've yet to see anything that shows that the *proportion* of players across platforms has significantly changed.

I really don't understand why people are so intent on celebrating that an entry of the franchise is doing poorly.

And I mean, "poorly", it's definitely still in the ballpark with AOE2. If that's dead to you, AOE2 can't exactly be thriving either if it's within a factor of 2. IMO, they're both fine, for now.

Funny that, it takes approximately a month for players to fall off the leaderboards, and that data was taken a few weeks ago.

i think it's not celebrating. it's angry. people like me paid $80 got a game full of bugs, very poor balance, graphic poorer than aoe3.

at first i think ok they will fix the problems by patchs, but how long we got a patch?! game is been 4 months, u still can not setting u own hot kays, u still dont have in-game ladder, still can not view post-game map! these are just very small problems, but still not been fixed. gamers are fast-pace，if u can't fix small problem in 2 weeks, people just leave, not mention 4 months!

if u dont understand it, i think u also dont understand people's reacting to battlefield 2042.

It is getting harder to understand how tournament coordinator allocates his money into a dying game with increased amount every tourney, with current trend when players hit bottom zero, we will see a 1 million dollar prize.

I don't think 125K prize money is a coincidence after 100K for his own tourney, deperate attempt to save his own ... .

What makes you think that the entire prizepool is sponsored by Worlds Edge when there are other sponsors specifically named in the event trailer, and EGC has put up significant funds by themselves in the past?
Did WE sponsor the entire $75k prizepool + ~$50k other costs for KotD4

For all that we know they have put in 'only' $50k unless you have any proof of an exact amount?

Honestly I kinda see his point, even tho personally I prefer equality over equity all day everyday. Aoe2 has a more loyal community with a steady playerbase, most people will play and create content regardless of the MS money.
