Too bad the actual experience of playing DE drives people away instead of engaging their interest.

well if you are refering to the one where westerners team with a chinese player i think ithe prizepool is about 100k Yuan which is like 15k dollars . but there might be a 100k dollars that i don't know about .

and also what we know for sure is that hidden cup 4 will have more than 50k dollars prizepool (maybe 100k ? )

As important as 30k viewers peak is the fact that t90 had like 10k viewers for several weekends.
Shorter tournaments bring a lot of viewers for small amount of time, but engaing 10k+ people for several weeks into a tournament is also very quite remarkable and good for the game and community.

And don't forget the HiddenCup 3 was held during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, millions of people at home, on sick leave, etc. Now it's been starting to normalize a bit.

TBF, HC3 was in the twich front page which meant anyone visitinhg twitch.com, and not neccesarrily looking for AOE was counted as viewer.

I think it's just that 1v1's are more popular and easier to follow for new viewers.
And yeah, when HC3 was held the pandemic was starting to hit hard and people were affraid to go outside.

Well, in spanish speaking community, the tourney was a huge success!
I had an overall record of 5800~ viewers live in the games of Argentina vs Spain ! Then the final had arround 5050~ people.
In the first World Cup 2018 my record was 1420 people during the final!

Regarding the WWP tournament, I think folks are getting the 100,000 USD figure from this post (which is probably where most of us first heard of it).

Recently, they announced that they will be hosting a tournament with a 100k USD prizepool, named "WWP Insiders Training Tournament" (白狼宫队内训练赛).

Exactly, it's better to stick with what we have been told than what people have misinterpreted.

Wasn't there a big streamer trying out DE on twitch too that approached 100k viewers? 2020 has been great for AOE2.
