2v2 Nomad Tournament

I have decided to put on a 2v2 Nomad Tournament -
SIGN UPS ARE NOW CLOSED

The tournament will begin week 1 from Oct 19th - Oct 25th, so you will have to play your first match during that week. (although if you cannot play during that week, but you could the following week earlier in the week it would be ok to play it then as well). I am going to make sure the tournament is completed by early december.

You will schedule games in the provided forums (if we get them soon), and once an agreed upon time is set, that time must be honored. Failure to do so may result in the an admin loss.

At this point prize money is NOT set. We will be collecting donations for prize money throughout the duration of the tournament, so I really can't say how much we will have for a prize pool. However, I am hoping to reach a goal of $1000 US. If you are someone who wishes to donate to help make this tournament great, please PM me and I'll send you more info.

So find a partner, practice your nomad games, and get ready for a fun tournament.

Memb will be streaming some of the matches live, as he is the official caster for this tournament.

On a side note -- I am looking for a couple reputable AoC personalities to help with running the tournament, and such persons being able to make logical decisions for problems that arise during the tournament. If you are such a person, please send me a PM and I will consider adding you as a tournament admin. Thx very much -- as I am not able to run the entire tourney without some help. Every tournament I have run (and there have been at least 6 or 7 by now that I have run) has a few issues that need to get resolved, so I never expect it to run flawlessly without any issues -- so that is why we need level headed admins that are trusted by the community.

Finally, I am looking for some help with setting up the forums, and making the posts more attractive. If you can help in this area, please PM me and I will be glad for the help.

Except for the finals the tournament will be a BO3 tourney. If you win 2x, you move on to the next round.
The finals will be a BO5 with the winner being the team that first reaches 3 victories.

Settings Must be as Follows:

Game: Random Map
Map Style: Standard
Location: Nomad
Size: Medium (4 player)
Resources: Standard
Pop: 200
Reveal Map: Standard
Victory: Conquest

You must also check the following boxes:
Team Together
Lock Teams
Record Game

Civilization Choice: You may only pick Team Random throughout the tournament.
Color choice: You can choose any color so long as the four players come to some agreement.

Each team will be able to call a restart (only 1x per match) in the first 5 minutes of play.

Rules during gameplay:

You are NOT allowed to interfere in any way with an enemy player during the first 5 minutes of the game. (Even if a villager walks under your tc in this time frame you cannot kill him or impede his movement)
You are NOT allowed to build any type of wall, house, or structure within 10 spaces from an enemy town center during the first 5 minutes of the game.
You are NOT allowed to lame any deer in the first 5 minutes of the game.
You are NOT allowed to kill any boars during the first 5 minutes of the game, except if you intend to harvest the boar yourself for food. (in other words, you may NOT palisade yourself in and kill a boar, simply to deny your opponent from using it)
You are NOT allowed to wall in a dock building villager of an enemy player during the first 5 minutes of the game.
You are NOT allowed to take or kill sheep if they are clearly walking with a villager. The player who controls the sheep first will be considered the owner of those sheep. However, if the sheep are not being shepherded by a villager, they are free for the taking.
However, you ARE allowed to build palisade walls, houses, lumber camps, mills and town center anywhere you wish during the first 5 minutes of the game if you are not intentionally trying to be malicious.
BUT... ONCE 5 Minutes of game play has elapsed, you can do anything you wish to do!

In those cases where the interference is of an accidental nature (ie. you did not see the enemy tc, or did not notice an enemy vill) and you can rectify the situation by returning the sheep or deleting the palisade, then the game can continue on if the injury has been made right. However, if you did not see the enemy tc when you built your house, but it ends up being within 10 spaces of the enemy tc -- several things may happen. 1. If the enemy is OK with the house as it does not really impede their game play, they can just choose to ignore the rule infraction and the game must proceed as normal. 2. If the enemy is NOT OK with the house and is within their rights to force you to delete the house, then that also triggers a few more options. 1. You can delete your house and decide to keep playing the game (being down a house or part of a house) or 2. You can call for a restart because you are now at a disadvantage for no fault of your own (and please note that this does not affect the 1 restart you have per match.)

However, if you are caught obviously disregarding these rules by purposely trying to interfere with an opposing player, the game MUST be restarted and you will receive a warning. If at any time during the tournament you receive a 2nd warning, an admin win will be given to the opposing team for that map. If you ever receive a 3rd warning, you will simply be kicked out of the tournament for your disregard for fair play.


Scheduling games:
You have a full 7 days in which to play your matches. All games must be scheduled in the provided forums, and agreements to a specific day and time (including the time zone) must be clear. Then if one team is a no show at that time, the other team may receive an admin win unless there are exceptional circumstances which prevented a team from being able to come. (ie. internet connection has gone down, storm has knocked out power, wife has gone into labour, grandma has died -- you get the idea). Tournament admins will make the decisions on a case by case basis.

When is it necessary to contact an admin?
If both teams come to an agreement about the game in question as regards the rules, and wish to continue the games then the teams may do so. However, you may NOT request an admin win or admin restart after having agreed to continue the match, and then since you lost, you decide to request admin help. If there is a problem that you cannot resolve between the two teams, the match must be paused until an admin has been contacted about the problem. The Admin will then make a decision based upon their best interpretation of the rules and the match may then be continued. I am hopeful that an admin will often be around immediately, but I cannot promise that at this point. If no admin is present please do your best to resolve the dispute by consulting the rules and making your decisions as best you can.


Please NOTE that these rules might undergo some changes between now and the tournament start date, so please re-read the rules the day of the tournament to make sure that you understand correctly how you are expected to play.

Two questions:
Is the maximum entrants per team 2, or can there be a 3rd for easier scheduling?
Under the current rules, it seems that you can't kill a vill walking under your tc before 5 min. Is that the case?

correct, you may not kill a vill under tc until min 5:01-
HOWEVER, the enemy villager may not interfere with your game in any way, and may not take or kill sheep, and must continue walking past without stopping.

Hey!

I'm sure a $1000 or thereabouts 2v2 nomad tournament would be very popular, so I suggest you contact one of the site administrators (PkZ, Taff) and ask them to get you a tournament sub-section set up and advertise it a bit on the front page of aoczone. From my experience it's a mess if you try to get scheduling and recorded games without sub-forums for even a small event.

I think War of Aggression and Balance of Power are now complete and could be moved to completed tournaments which would give some more space on the side bar on the left.

Won't this allow a team that has already used their restart to force a new restart (at the expense of a warning)?

The trade off would be worth it since you only get an aw after two warnings and still only for one map, not for the match.

Finally a tournament with team random in settings on a variable map. Looking forward to it.

IMO, some of the no laming rules are really harsh and impractical.

- You are NOT allowed to build any type of wall, house, or structure within 10 spaces from an enemy town center during the first 5 minutes of the game.

- You are NOT allowed to take or kill sheep if they are clearly walking with a villager. So 2 people ended up really close now one of them must starve and can't do anything about it.

- If the interference is deemed to be accidental (ie. you did not see the villager, or you did not see the town center of an enemy player, and you were simply building a house or a wall for another purpose) then the player with whom you are interfering with can pause the game and inform you of your interference, upon which time you must delete your wall/building and the game can carry on. Deleting even 1 house that early can be really harsh.
