I appreciate they are running the poll, but the people in that discord are like a niche's niche. I didn't even know about the discord, and I had tried to log on and get tickets.
The thing to keep in mind is that every LAN event is going to have issues. There will always be something, whether it's the internet, the sounds, the venue, some admin issue, or a bugged game. This applies to massive esports like CS GO as well. What matters is how quickly it's addressed, and I...
I think with proper promotion and time to plan, an Aoe2 LAN could get 2k people in attendance. We have a small but very established fan base that is mostly older, which means more disposable income. All of which is to say, there's a happy middle between 50 seats in a castle and a 40k stadium.
I get having the tournament in a castle if there is no fans. You get a a nice setting for online viewership. However, a LAN tournament in EU with fans should be held in a small stadium so that a few thousand people can attend. I for one would have journeyed from Canada to attend. Oh well. Maybe...
To be clear, I don't think they need to have the same stature or length of experience as Nili or Robo. Because, you are right, there aren't many of those people. What I would like is someone who has esports knowledge (can be from another game), and loves aoe2.
Probably for the best given conflict of interest issues, I just hope we get someone as dedicated to the scene as Nili. No one can deny he loves aoe2 and is an integral part of the community. I hope someone similar is his replacement and not a random with no esports knowledge.
Nah, seems like one of the (many) people who tries to enter the industry and present themselves as having a lot of experience. That's probably how he ended up getting the Ford Models' job, which isn't exactly endemic to esports. I just looked the guy up and he's also peddling NFTs - another...
I follow multiple esports titles and know of many industry people and I've never heard of this guy. I'm not sure what qualifies him to write a literal book on esports. Be very wary.
Yeah, I totally get it, just wanted to be clear what they were referring to. I don't think the situation really applies here. How it used to be in aoe2 was like 6 spots would be for invites (to make sure they got all the big names) and 2 spots for qualifiers, meaning that basically everyone else...
Yes, I understand that. You seemed to have missed their point however because you were fixated on whether it was actually nepotism or not. Their point was that Larry is being invited because of his name, not because of his skill, which has been a complaint in aoe2 events over the years where the...
I am kinda surprised the viewership is this low. I was expecting 10-15k for the group days and then 20-30k for the playoffs. I guess we will see what the weekend brings, but this is really not looking good. Part of it might be that there aren't really any "personalities" in aoe4 that have a huge...
This is really bad news. I'm shocked MS is OK with this. The scene has basically zero oversight. Adding gambling into the mix is like putting gasoline on a fire. This has been a huge issue in other esports recently. The lower-ranked players who make a pittance are way too tempted to throw games...
I don't think Hera is trying to go professional. It's really not possible at this stage unless he's some otherworldly talent at LoL that was just sitting untapped in aoe2. It's more ladder grinding and content creation. The issue is the NA ladder in league is not a very fun time. Ping issues...
As I keep saying, that's the problem with conflicts of interest. We don't know if people are doing things because that's the best decision, or if the conflict is affecting things. For example, we don't know if Nili is using other funds to pay a "rental fee" to GL for using their venue, or what...
@MaSmOrRa 's Kings & Plebians episode with Nili was great. Brought up a lot of the points people here have been talking about. I will say that Nili seems pretty delusional about the whole thing.
He claims that hosting this aoe4 tournament does not hurt aoe2 because it shouldn't affect aoe2, but...
