To me, part of the problem is in campy games when players run out of wood on their island. It can start to make the game look a bit silly IMO as the game slows to a snail's pace and players stop reseeding farms and desperately try to scramble resources for ships.
This is compounded for...
Something that relates to this thread is I was actually thinking about trying to design a ranking system that rates players. The idea would be to give an idea of who is number 1 but also to rank players further down.
I know there’s tournament ELO which is a cool site but I’m not convinced an...
I agree with almost all of this although I do prefer a live final as as the match not having happened yet is the only 100% guarantee that there’s no way the result can be spoiled.
Thinking about the way the new maps were introduced. I liked the way it gave players the opportunity to prep...
I haven’t followed Jordan that much but am a bit of a Max fanboy.
I always get the impression there are 2 versions of Max: the incredible strategist and boomer who can compete with the best of them and doesn’t often lose to players outside the top 6, and a shadow of that who looks disappointing...
Understand the wider point and I think there is genuine debate on seeding - how do you assign seeds and structure tournaments? Fixed seeding/ random seeding and some kind of flexible seeding all have their merits and disadvantages. Also a mixture of knockouts, swiss, group stages, double...
Agree a tournament like that would be great.
Question on seeding. What are the community views on tennis style seeding? So rather than seed 1v 32, 2v 31 down to 16 v 17, the top 16 would play the bottom 16 but it would be randomised within that. So seed 1 could be drawn against any of the...
Congratulations to T90 on running an amazing tournament! Lots to praise about the whole production. I remember a bit on your stream when you talked about trying to get sponsors and being told the HC3 viewer numbers were 'largely due to COVID'. It must feel so so sweet to come back a year later...
Maybe they also switched up all the training partners to really confuse us. Joran, Daut, Liereyy and MbL coordinated on strats and so did Viper, Tatoh, Hera and Nicov. Then when the winner is announced and it's Yo they all wish they'd focussed on preparing instead of mindgaming AOEZone.
If Admiral Yi is Viper and wins, I hope he has seen the speculation that he is Jordan, and starts the semi-final by saying 'enjoy'. People would go mad.
Been watching this as much as I can and the map pool is for me the best I've seen in any mixed map tournament.
The well-known maps like gold rush have been honed and improved; former hidden cup maps have worked great; and the new maps have seen great games (I haven't seen any on quarry though...
In terms of the main event, the new maps look fantastic and should definitely add to the spectacle. Hope I get the chance to play some of them at some point!
Yes, there is also a good case for invites and you can make the argument either way.
Tournaments in other sports such as the football world cup don't use invites. KOTD3 also had no invites and the top players had to play a round of 64 and 32 to get to the group stage.
But you have a good point...
I'd be tempted to just make everybody qualify - no invites and make it as open as possible. Players like Viper and Hera should comfortably be good enough that they can beat someone around 30th in the world to qualify for the main event, and if they don't then the player who beats them deserves...
I think there is an interesting discussion overall but I'm not really comfortable with the criticism of people charging €30 an hour or whatever.
A lot of these people are very smart and could or do make great livings outside of the game, and ultimately giving up an hour of their time has to be...
The first round qualifiers were just great - the drafts worked well and we saw variety and it was great that so many players got the opportunity to play. Without such a big qualifier, we wouldn't have seen such great play from unknown players such as .
Obviously some sets were casted by...
Glad to see this back.
Very happy to see:
A large qualifier giving as many as possible the opportunity to qualify.
Live draw on stream.
Open streaming.
Plus obviously you’ve got big prize pools, lots of top players, professional organisation and coverage. All of these things seem to be a...
Wow this is a lot of sign ups. I have to support robo and the organisers for limiting it to 2 teams per country. This is a World Cup and to achieve that feel you want lots of different countries involved. At the same time you want to preserve a high level of players so a limit of 1 team per...
Everyone invited is a good player/ streamer but my personal preference would have been to do some kind of massive community battle royale event with the money instead of something exclusive.
